No nuge

Created by: Cbzblaze
Team: 2021-22 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 7, 2021
Published: Jun. 11, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I'd be happy with 1 skilled guy who can score to play with McDavid. (Randomly took Tatar and overpaid to keep the deal short)
And another forward that can play middle 6 (2nd line wing or 3rd line center).
I think there's better value out there than nuge (if he's asking for some ridiculous 6yr $7mill per)
Defence doesn't look great on paper, but what the playoffs always teach is that every team needs a few big dmen that can clear the front of the net. Oilers d has been smallish and soft the last few years.

Haas left for fondues & chocolate.
I like what you did with forwards. Need one of top 3 LWers to be a 1 year contract.... just in case Holloway is ready in 2022-23.
D needs an upgrade on the left side, assuming Klefbom cannot play.
I'm guessing we stick with Koskinen this season. " Just get in" is the mantra and Smith/Koskinen is good enough to get in. Trade Koskinen at deadline for upgrade/playoff goalie for cheap. Save the dead cap space for next 2 years.

Agree with everything you said. I'm thinking even the current team without major changes gets a 1st round victory next year over Flames or Canucks.

Honestly, I've never seen either driedger or Ulmark play. Was looking at the FA goalies next summer and doesn't look too great either. Finding a solid long term goalie solution is gonna be the most important hurdle for this team.

This Defence would be top 5 worst in the league. Why would you promote Bear to the 1st line after the season he has had? Also Koekkoek is a 6/7th defensemen at best.

Other notes to mention:
- Galchenyuk would rather play in Toronto for that amount where he's had success.
- Why would you sign a $3.5M LW to play below the $1M LW you also signed?
- Mcleod won't succeed on the 4th line

If you noticed, I don't have klefbom on LTIR. If he's healthy the D is good. If he can't play there's 4 million to add a quality dman.

Everyone is ****ting on Bear these days. Young D go through ups and downs. It's part of their natural progression. He's a better player than he showed this year. I have him on the 1st pair because thats where he's going to play if Barrie isn't resigned. Larsson doesn't pair well with nurse and Bouchard will have to play his way up the lineup.
Koekkoek is ideally suited for bottom pair but can fill in temporarily.

Barrie signed a cheap 1 yr deal and it's gonna get him paid. Someone like galchenyuk might take advantage of being able to play with McDavid or drai to revive his career.

Just because someone makes more money doesn't mean they have to play higher in the lineup. Different guys have different skillets.

McLeod will be sucessfull on whichever line he centers. 2nd, 3rd or 4th. Guy can skate and he works hard.

Yamamoto is a huge overpay, remember that Yamamoto has no arbitration rights and to qualify him is around 1 million dollars. so i would think a 1.25 is what he might get for the next 2 years.

There is zero chance Holland gives TT a 6 million dollar payday.

"IF" is a big risk to take on a team with Mcdavid and Drai. Klefbom when healthy but that was a while ago..

Bear is a decent young defensemen but is no where near a top pairing guy yet. He can't replicate Barrie's offensive numbers and is no better defensively. The method you have made moves is just wishful thinking rather than making changes for the better.

Obviously we aren't getting Barrie at the same value anymore..but why not pay him more to stay? He fit well with our group and you wouldn't need to rush Bear into a role he isn't suited for. As for Galchenyuk his career has partly been revived in Toronto..still a gamble on the Oilers banking on him to be a top 6 caliber player again.

Again lots of wishful thinking giving players bigger roles than they are suited. Oilers should be in a playoff threat but with these moves we would barely be a playoff team.

Agree with the salary comment. But if you are signing two UFA's for the same position why would you get someone cheap for your top 6 role and pay someone 3x more to be on your 3rd line?? Literally makes no sense I'd rather spend more on a dependable top 6 winger.

Mcleod is great but don't bury him on the 4th line. You are essentially setting him up for failure in such a limited checking role.
