Maybe we'll take Maatta and a 2nd for Foegele after that performance?! LOL.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>IDKtbh</b></div><div>Detroit declines. We don’t need to take on a bad contract AND retain just to get a future 2nd round pick for Maatta.
Probably one of the worst trades I’ve seen on this site from a sensical standpoint.</div></div>
Well...... Detroit has $42 million committed next year. There's a cap floor and 5 of their 15 FWDS are UFAs. You can look at is a cap dump, or you can look at it as another guy who has underperformed in Edmonton (as many players seem to do there) and might be worth a look cause he's got size and speed. If he doesn't pan out can be flipped as a rental for a late pick at next years deadline or if he has a good season can be resigned or traded for good pick at next years deadline.
So Detroit gets a 2nd, a test drive a player for a year that at worst turns into a late round pick in 2024 draft.

big "no thank you" from Edmonton. Not solving your cap problem and giving up 2 assets. Oilers cant afford to give up anymore draft picks. They need to acquire draft picks for 2023 & 2024 to use as trading chips at trade deadline.

Edmonton declines. Not even close. Maybe Niemelainen and a 2nd for Lehner, even then..... there are better options in UFA.

Your argument is so ridiculous its funny. But you keep going. lol.
"Smith hasnt retired so youre fantasy proposal is garbage."
Last I checked, Yamamoto hasn't signed that contract either, neither has Kulak. GMs in Dallas and Arizona haven't accepted the fantasy trades either. Why pick on the Smith retirement proposal -which probably has a greater chance of happening than any of the trades - over the fantasy trades. You make a fool of yourself.
Because its F-A-N-T-A-S-Y. Its F-U-N.

Great post, thanks
That’s said just about every old player, just about every year
Assuming he’s retiring is premature,
especially when you put the odds at 50/50</div></div>
No he hasn't but this is fantasy team about next year. The chance of any of the proposed trades/signings/retirements/buyouts is probably less than 1%. So why lurk here if you gonna pick 1 idea and say "that'll never happen". None of these will happen. You could say the same thing about any of the trades proposed. Has the other GM accepted? he hasn't. So your whole fantasy roster is just that ... "fantasy". If youre just trying to be a jerk, nice job. You succeeded.

Picked first team on the drop down. Could be anyone. They had inquiries about Foegele at the deadline. I expect a 3/4th rounder would be fair value. Doesnt matter what team.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Buffalove</b></div><div>No reason for Smith to be on IR,

Smith is on LTIR cause there's no "retired" option to keep his contract off the cap. I always though 35+ contract counted to your cap if player retired, but a couple of articles mentioned that if the 35+ contract is not front loaded ... salary in last year is more than earlier years, then it doesn't count towards your cap. So Smith can retire without his contract counting to the Oilers cap because of the way the deal is structured, So no, I am not over the cap.

Edmonton cannot take on DeBrincat's contract without money going the other way. Take Keith at full $$ was a mistake. They have no room, have to resign Puljujarvi and find a #1 goalie .....they're screwed.

Of course Chicago accepts, they probably not going to qualify Strome at that price. Edmonton should wait and sign him for free or trade a 7th round pick to negotiate early. Giving up a first would be such a Ken Holland thing to do. lol

I like what you did with forwards. Need one of top 3 LWers to be a 1 year contract.... just in case Holloway is ready in 2022-23.
D needs an upgrade on the left side, assuming Klefbom cannot play.
I'm guessing we stick with Koskinen this season. " Just get in" is the mantra and Smith/Koskinen is good enough to get in. Trade Koskinen at deadline for upgrade/playoff goalie for cheap. Save the dead cap space for next 2 years.

Thats a lot to pay for Hertl. Could probably get it done without the 1st. There is zero chance Montreal trades Tiffoli, unless the player demands a trade....and Donskoi and a 5th wont get it done.

Too much for Georgiev. There are other options available if thats the price.
Same as whent hey acquired Talbot.... he hasnt proven to be a #1 goalie yet. Never played more 50% of the games yet you're giving up a first. Too much.
As much as people think Kassian is a cap dump (after the season he had, maybe) but there will be interest from the NYR & Pittsburgh, Brian Burke spent every Thursday on Oiler radio singing his praises. He had a tough year. Burkie will be interested at the right price. I think we need to keep him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BStinson</b></div><div>Jones is an okay prospect but Detroit has his quality in spades same with Benson. For Detroit’s expansion it’s some combination of Hronek, Stetcher, Lindstrom, and Cholowski. Lindstrom’s stats don’t jump off the page as he’s a stay at home D. You also have to protect unsigned RFAs which is why I asked. 1.5M isn’t a whole lot but it takes one of three retained slots and facilitated a trade that doesn’t really make us better. I also know the prospects I’d want would cost more and same goes with the picks. Plus it seems like Holland is going to buyout someone or multiple.</div></div>
I think it could easily be after cause Edmonton can protect Nurse, Bear, Jones...sign Larsson after expansion. But it could also be a different team like LA or NJ.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BStinson</b></div><div>Is this post or pre expansion draft?</div></div>
Likely pre.
Detroit has only 2 D undercontract. So can afford to protect Jones. But I'm not sure how the protecting RFAs works.... I guess Cholowski & Hronek are concerns. But Detroit also has to make a goalie available. Right now, they don't have one, I think. Unless one of their European minor leaguers qualifies. So it would help them that way too?
Could also be post. Assuming Jones slips through expansion. If he doesn't then you could sub in Benson....or another prospect.

sure. I think there's enough money for Bozak is 35 or 36.... be nervous with much more than @$2.5. What if he get Belanger-Turris syndrome. Might have to be heavy on the performance bonus?
Tatar....term is important cause I dont wanna block Holloway. If we have Tatar, Coleman and Nosek on LW.... 97, 29 and McLeod at C.... . where's Holloway go? That's why the 1 year was critical on Tatar.

Oilers offseason
"Detroit just isn't interested in Koskinen they have 2 goalies who are both better than Koskinen this season."
I guess I should've explained that move......
Detroit just meant to be the intermediary in moving Koskinen. The idea is Detroit has money and isn't a cap team. They take Koskinen and Jones. Flip Koskinen to another team for a late pick and retain $1.5M. Whatever, maybe they only trade a 5th , 6th or 7th in the deal to Edmonton. IT really doesn't matter.
Third team gets a backup for $1,5M for a very late draft pick.
Wings trades a late pick for a late pick. Could be up a round or down a round.
Essentially Detroit buys Caleb Jones for $1.5M for being the third party. Anther squad gets Koskinen @ $1.5M and a late pick.
Needed someone who is looking for youngish assets, has money and cap space. Could be Detroit, could be someone else. If it doesnt work..... Edmonton can buy out Koskinen instead of Turris. Theres enough money for that....
