Beauvillier Offer Sheet

Created by: brad_habs
Team: 2021-22 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 12, 2021
Published: Jun. 12, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The NYI are in cap trouble with Beauvillier, Pelech and Sorokin to resign. This could be a good opportunity for Bergevin to snatch a very good, young, scoring winger. To get him, the Habs would have to gamble on overpaying him (even then the Isles might decide to match), as well as convince a Quebec born player to be willing to play under the media spotlight in Montreal.

A trade would obviously be preferable, but I can't see the Isles agreeing to anything the Habs could reasonably offer.

Still an interesting idea (to me, at least).

This obviously assumes that they don't bring back Tatar and that Drouin doesn't return to the lineup next season (or is traded in a way that doesn't significantly impact the cap).

Beauvillier is just as important to the isles as barzal and the isles have players with value that they can trade to create space, so they won't have trouble signing beau. They will match.

Allen? You don't think they'll pick Lehkonen?

I agree that's the most likely outcome, but to do that NYI have to clear cap space first. It probably doesn't work, but Bergevin has nothing to lose (besides pissing off Lamoriello).

In this scenario my protected forwards would be Gally, KK, Anderson, Toffoli, Lehkonen, Evans and Beauvillier (sign Danault after the draft). So Allen, Chiarot or Fleury would be the most likely to go (assuming Berge won't leave his captain unprotected).

Foote would definitely be interesting since the Habs cupboards are pretty dry on RD (neither Fleury nor Brook look to be top-4 caliber, at least not yet). Though, to me, the Canadien's immediate needs are a LW that can score and LD that can move the puck. Foote might have the potential to replace Weber in a couple years tho, so definitely wouldn't be upset if the Habs went that route.

But then you messed up the timeline since they can't offersheet before the expansiondraft.

I love the idea even if NYI will likely match. Take a chance and see where it goes. Maybe Lou get offended to see Beau accepted the OS and let him go...

Another big factor to consider is who get picked by Seattle on NYI's roster. If it's Mayfield or Bellows (like I think), it would complicate things for NYI. If it's Bailey or Leddy, then it's not worth it because of the new capspace.
