I'd be more than happy if we had these players in 21/22, but I can't see why Flyers would offer to tank that Neal deal in return for some non-1st-round picks? I've seen a more likely speculation of Yzerman tanking Neal for a first and maybe a prospect.

My thinking was JVR is no doubt over paid and I thought he struggled last year as well. Granted I didn’t watch many flyer games so could be wrong. That typed, he no doubt was better then Neal but also more expensive so a 2nd and 3rd evened out the trade, instead of a 1st to get rid of Neal (who could rebound still).

Yes JVR is overpaid but he still has good offensive production. 43 points in 56 games isn't bad.

JVR didn't struggle, he is streaky and always has been. He would have been 4th on the Oilers in p/gp ahead of Nuge.
