The games I’ve watched as a jet, he is a very underrated d man imo. Top legit #2 in the league. I also don’t think we need a difference maker, nor could we afford one w a cap system, we just need an upgrade on cici.
Poink is right position, an upgrade, and a great cap hit for two years.
There are very few right handed dman that would be an upgrade on ceci at a cap hit less then 6.5 M or more - that would also cost a lot more to acquire.

3rd line is called the motor line, and by end of the season is the best 3rd line in the nhl.

Any thoughts welcome.
Hard to believe everyone thinks all the above is reasonable and a good idea…
Interested to hear…

Keith trade and others
You think 2.5 and 3.5 m is a over pay? I agree with you that they are two players that are prime overpay candidates and Ken should stay away. But you think oil could sign them for above, or gonna be more?

Trades
My thinking was JVR is no doubt over paid and I thought he struggled last year as well. Granted I didn’t watch many flyer games so could be wrong. That typed, he no doubt was better then Neal but also more expensive so a 2nd and 3rd evened out the trade, instead of a 1st to get rid of Neal (who could rebound still).

Whats the best UFA LW for mcdavid next season
Ya - agree. But think we all know that ovie isn’t happening so left him off the list. Same w landy on the avs, and hall (as just don’t see it happening).
Tried to keep it semi-realistic
But Ovie + mcdavid = cup no doubt ;)

Next year - ANDRE BURAKOVSKY - see description
Ya I wish the oil would have jumped at the opportunity when the avs got him from Washington a few years ago to be honest.
Lol at “he is skill”. Fair enough.
Wishful thinking as I doubt the avs would leave him unprotected or trade him, but what do you think - would a first and benson be enough of a overpay to entice them?

Next year starting line up - most complete team yet
Fair enough - but this is all for the 2021/22 season so could wait till the draft to decide and all trades can occur afterwards
If Edmonton has the 20th pick (1st rounder) and rangers have the 43rd pick (2nd round) would you do it? Aka 20th for 43rd and 51st for example?

Would love to see debrusk as a oil - but why do the bruins do this? They are not in a rebuild so why would they trade him?

Quoting: villenash

Barkov is also a UFA in a year -- I don't see EDM trading McDavid for a guy that might walk in a year.

I was more looking at the pieces then the length of contract, assuming that each player in this trade would sign a new contract long term with the team acquiring them when the timing is appropriate/negotiating time.

You don’t think they would be willing to waive to move together and join draisatl and nurse and broberg. Have to think they would be in a better position to win then if they stayed in Florida.

Two year plan - part 2 - 2022-23 season
@pharrow - Keep in mind, this is not this year, not next year but the following winter. So yes, by that point I do imagine puljujarvi has done a few things to deserve 4m. Right now, this second, of course not.
As for nurse, again, this is three years from now. Currently from a stats perspective, nurse isn’t that far off fr parayko and is only entering his prime years now. Contract above is signed with expectation that nurse continues to grow over the next two seasons.

Flat oil
@Bringer_Of_Snow - yes, agree $12m towards goalies is too much long term for this position, but being able to ice a competitive line-up (as above) show it is possible at least for 1 season. After the Seattle draft, and the 20-21 season - you could look to move out one of the goalies as needed. I look at it not as $12m toward goalies so it’s not a good idea/possible, but instead as realistic options for re-allocating the $ used for neal’s contract (plus a smidge more), and in this scenario I think using these funds towards flurry unseat of Neal is a win

19-20 oilers - starting line up
Maybe should have added before posting - this isn’t what I would call my ideal line-up to start the season, just what I think is most realistic (w/o making any trades) line/my prediction up to start the season based on current personal.
That said, as much as this roster still has massive holes (2 top 6 wingers, 1 3c, and 1 top four d man to start with), I do think the little holland has done is a improvement from last years roster. Holland was handcuffed this year for sure and excited to see what BIG changes can be made for 20/21.

Hollands hero - next year
Yeah fair enough on signing three free agents in 1 year. Faulk would be the harder one to sign I think - so maybe re-sign Benning to a couple year deal instead and wait for some of the prospects to continue to come up...

We will see what he ends up signing for, but I wouldn’t be surprised. Have to think, entering his prime years he is only going to improve.
If you could get him for less, great.
