Description
I'm assuming that because of the border restrictions, the Oilers don't make any substantial moves at the deadline. They squeak into 3rd in the North division (#3-5 is pretty contested anyways) and finish with about the 18th overall pick.

Broberg, Holloway, and Konovalov at least start the year in the AHL. I'd really like to see them get the full season with premier minutes.

Seattle trade is kind of a given around these parts: Jones is a quality, young top-4 LHD and doesn't need to be paired with a 2nd to move Neal. A 3rd or 4th is more than enough. Neal isn't a complete slouch.

To my dismay, the Bruins haven't fallen off the wagon this year. Maybe next year? Either way, I'd really like to know what it takes to pull Debrusk back home. The 1st Round pick is a given, and I've assumed that next years' is more valuable given that the kids really haven't been playing at all this year. Tullio's a fine prospect from the past draft, was rated much higher than where he went, and has an NHLe of 0.198ppg (this means nothing without context; he's ahead of the Oilers' Ryan McLeod in terms of D+1 developments as a benchmark). I know this isn't enough for Debrusk as is, but I don't particularly know how far off I am. Just a starting point.

Grubauer is, admittedly, a little bit of a gamble. He's handled the starter role in Colorado phenomenally well and Edmonton needs a better goaltender to pair with Koskinen. He's going to be cheaper than Binnington and I doubt Holland has the stones to offer sheet one of the many quality RFA goaltenders potentially hitting the market this summer. Calls for Korpisalo are mislead: he's not that great behind a much stronger blueline and only has the small sample from the bubble where he played out of his mind kinds of good. Edmonton's blueline, albeit improved, is still going to surrender chances. League average won't cut it if you're giving up 40+ shots a night. Hopefully the improvements paired with the stability of another German is enough to make Edmonton a much more formidable team against the likes of Vegas.

Staal and Savard are brought in as over-capable depth veterans. A real #3C and a shutdown defender that can actually perform as advertised does loads for the bottom half of Edmonton's roster. Zajac's here to win the old fart a cup and that veteran "been-there" presence he can bring with Staal. I'm hoping Klefbom comes back capable of handling top-4 minutes and that Nugent-Hopkins takes the reasonable deal and doesn't play chicken with UFA.

If Benson and Marody are still Oilers by next season, there's no telling what they'll be until they see NHL games. Play them.

Would love to see debrusk as a oil - but why do the bruins do this? They are not in a rebuild so why would they trade him?

Until the bruins hit the big decline, they’ll be in the business of trading picks for players, most certainly not the other way around. Every decision should be made in the context of making the team better right now. The first round pick is of great value, but it doesn’t accomplish that mission.

And I wholly agree with this.

I'm not convinced that the Bruins are going to be as good next year, but I've been saying that for 3 years now. Maybe losing Rask and Krejci won't hurt them as bad as I think? I've seen a fair bit of Bruins AGMs that appear to be banking on RNH making UFA. What happens then if he does extend in Edmonton? Bergeron can't keep getting away with beating father time.

Trading Debrusk while he still has a year left before he hits RFA again is probably premature. If the club still has legs, they're more suited to just keep Debrusk and trade him at the draft.

    Thanks for the insight!

Why on earth would you think they’re losing rask?

Free agency? Or did he sign an extension and I missed it? Busy semester. I look at the Chara situation, albeit each contract negotiation varies, and it looks at first glance that ownership isn't going to pay vets top dollar. And they shouldn't. Does Rask take less than market? Even if he stays though, goalies are voodoo. Some drop off at 34, some don't. Maybe Vladar steps in right away?

Top dollar? Chara got league minimum. They just wanted to go with youth on the back end. Sweeney said (for what it’s worth) that he offered Chara more than he wound up signing for, but wanted to give him a smaller roll.

Rask said he won’t play for any team other than Boston, and since Boston doesn’t exactly have a replacement ready, I think it’s more or less a lock that he stays.

This lineup is deadly and realistic. Contracts are generous and it still fits under the cap. I feel like Boston would want a roster player for Debrusk but if we made a trade work the 1st line would be amazing. Defense is an upgrade too, that Klef - Bouch duo could be an insane 2nd pair

I don't think Boston is going to trade DeBrusk any time soon. But even if they were, should Edmonton pay that price? Holloway could be just as good at 1LW next year (and quite possibly a better fit based on play-style) and is significantly cheaper (est. $875k x 3). And they'd get to keep the 1st, who will turn into a good player in 2-3 years time. Holland is thinking long-term and Oilers fans are having a hard time adjusting.
