I believe the Pens would give a solid "no." That's a massive overpayment for Wood. Pettersson for Wood straight up would be very fair.

It has nothing to do with good or bad. Pettersson is awesome. It's a combination of the Pens having to move out serious salary and having POJ ready to go. He has a lot of value which is why he is more moveable than other choices we'd rather move. The flat cap is about to catch up the Pens pretty hard. A lot of touch decisions to be made depending on who gets picked up in the expansion draft.

It's other team fans that trade for Wood, especially Penguin fans. Most Devils fans don't trade Wood

It’s not though. It’s pretty equal both ways. But regardless, the point on this site is to trade value for value. So just because pens fans trade someone doesn’t mean he sucks. It likely means he has value and is an actual realistic chance to be traded. Trust me, if it was about trading the player with the least value, you’d be seeing a ton of Matheson trades, not Pettersson trades. I’ll never understand the people that use this. “You have to trade value to get value” then next breath “oh you’re trading that player so he must be terrible” lol

Penguins are in a weird spot. Cost-wise Matheson should be playing top 4 minutes and based on his play deserved top 4 minutes last year. Pettersson is still quite young and has room to grow. When Dumoulin went down he was easily our best replacement for top pairing minutes next to Letang. That goes to show what he could do on a team in need of a top 4 guy that isn't quite ready to compete yet, but wants a core group to grow together.

I'd honestly rather not trade Pettersson. There is too much value in a battle tested young defenseman, signed for good term on a cap friendly contract. POJ looks decent but he's kind of a string bean.

And btw searching both teams. On the first page alone there are more devils fans trading Wood to the pens for Pettersson than pens trading Pettersson to the devils for Wood. Just sayin.
