I think the basis of the Eichel trade isn't bad, but you need to throw futures in that package. BUF is going to rebuild and needs some picks/prospects. Adding a 1st goes without saying.

Getzlaf wouldn't accept a trade to any major contenders because he doesn't want to uproot his family. You think he's going to uproot his family to be the 13th forward in MTL?

Buffalo laughs at that offer. You are about 2 first round picks short in terms of value. So many teams would better that offer....

It just doesn't fit what Buffalo is looking to accomplish with an Eichel trade.

Why not? Drouin and arty are good young pieces you can build a good team with and kk is a future 1C. We just cant wait for kk to develop while price and weber are getting up there

If Buffalo was looking to ice a playoff team right now and sign some other supporting cast members it would make more sense. Drouin, let's be honest, he's OK, but he's not a centerpiece. He's what you get to place around a centerpiece. Artturi is a decent player and is an impact player on a playoff team needing some depth scoring that again, is looking to add for a playoff run. You're not offering anything bad per-se, but it's a lot of middle of the road pieces that a playoff team could use.

Buffalo is going to want a high pick/prospect package with maybe one younger player currently playing in the NHL.

Assuming Eichel's injury/surgery poses no impact to his game, getting Eichel on the Habs turns them into a Stanley Cup favorite over night and that is going to cost you big time. Most teams competing for a playoff spot are too close to the cap to afford him and would probably need to make some cap dumps to make it happen, or give Buffalo incentive to take some bad contracts off your books.

My point is for a team like MTL, it's worth it to go big on him and sacrifice some major future pieces. Eichel makes you guys dangerous for a very long time.

Think Jesper, two 1sts and Ghule.

You already have some solid young players making their way, so you can be in a position to get rid of some major futures for a player that makes you probably one of the best teams in the league overnight.

I know thats why its so enticing. I would give up those assets but we would have to dump quite a lot of salary in the process. Cause were basically at the cap already plus we have to pay suzuki and romanov next summer and caufield the one after that. Hopefully bergy can work some magic
