My Dream Habs Team for 2021-2022

Created by: Bvrbozv
Team: 2021-22 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 21, 2021
Published: Jun. 25, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
▫️Drouin for Burakovsky. I think is the best for Habs and Jo to trade him, if he go with Colorado he will play with Mackinnon they played together junior and this duo was crazy. Burakovsky is more responsable in defense and more big so is a good fit for the Habs.
▫️Byron to Seattle. With the rules of the expansion draft you have to protect 7F 3D 1G or 8 players 1G. With this rules it's almost impossible to protect our top 4 D so I think Bergevin will trade draft pick to Seattle for they to pick Byron. I really like Byron he has been on waivers several times this year and he never complained and now he's very good in this playoff run. A real pro and team player.
▫️Contract to Barrie. I like Gustafsson in the power play but except that he's not good defensively so I will propose a one year contract to Barrie who is better and he's a right shooter so he will complete the last duo with Romanov perfectly and if he's too risky for Romanov, Barrie will play with Chariot or Edmundson two guys more responsable defensively and Romanov will play with Weber or Petry. And just one year contract because we have to keep money for signing Suzuki, Chiarot, Romanov and Evans at the end of next season and Caufield the year after.
▫️Contract to Danault. I really have the justify why we have to sign Phil?
▫️Contract to Perry. I don't have to justify that too.
▫️Contract to Kotkaniemi. KK have so much potential he have everything to become a great center probably never a 1C but a great center. He's still young he's more young that Suzuki and Caufield! So I will give him a transition contract for 3 years and if he become the player that Bergevin think they draft in the 3th overall he will receive the money he deserves in his next contract.
▫️Contract to Lehkonen. Lehky miss the net a lot but he's very good defensively especially in SH and he give is 100% effort every game. Contenders teams need player like that to win the Stanley Cup.
▫️Contract to Armia. Joël needs to be must consistent but he's a great player he have a nice shot and he's good in SH every team will like to have Armia in a fourth line.
◾Tatar. I don't really know what happened to Tatar this year he was so good past year but this year not really I don't think he will re-sign with the Habs so good luck to him.
◾Staal. Habs have good young centers who eventually need to play (Jake Evans, Poehling). If Staal want to comeback next year and accept the minimum of salary I have not problem with that but I don't think he want that. He will problably sign with Canes and retire after.
◾ Merill and Gustafsson. Habs have good prospects in defense so I don't think they need them next year.

Ps : English is not my first language so sorry if I made mistakes.

I think COL has too many cap issues to take on 600k more in Drouin.

Both players are flawed, but I think MTL would have to add something really substantial for anyone to take on Drouin, right now. His value is at an all time low (38 pts the last 2 yrs combined, his style of play, injuries, etc...)

His problems are partly health, partly mental health, and partly overpaid and unreliable. The last two yrs production and injuries really work against him.

Maybe a 2nd or a good prospect (one of your taxi squad guys) has to be included, but even then Im not sure COL goes for it.

But your lineup is pretty close to my opinion

Seattle will not ignore your exposed top 4 d men ANNNNND take Byron's contract for two 3rds. That is a massive ask.
While there are exceptions to the rule the stats are clear. A 3rd round pick has a 13.7% chance of becoming an NHL regular (99+ games).
That's the average on all 3rd round selections, so LATE 3rd rounders have even less of chance, obviously.
Add Luke Tuch to the deal and maybe there's a chance...

You are right Byron and 2 3rd pick is not enough.. I will modify and remplace by a 3nd round pick and Brooks or Tuch. If they don't accept we will keep Byron and trade Armia.

I think Habs can retain salary for helping Colorado.

    Avs easily decline that trade

Bura is the better player, his offensive numbers and defensively numbers have been better than Drouin the past 2 seasons. Doesnt make any sense for the avs
(considering Drouin was getting top line minutes vs Bura 2nd line minutes....Bura did more with less opportunity)

I'm thinking Drouin (with 2mil retained) and one of Fleury, Ylonen, Primeau or Poehling, and still maybe COL says no. IMO Drouin and his "game" has damaged his value that much
