If you are concerned about the 2022 season enough to put a top 2 protection on it then its not worth trading the 1st rounder

just there in case we miss the playoffs and thats a lotto pick. Next years lotto is only for the top 2 spots. Say we miss the playoffs by 1 point, our pick could be drawn to the top 2. Yes it's a 1% chance, but I don't want wht happened to San Jose to happen to us

Well that's what I'm saying. At this juncture, if we aren't going to be surefire contenders I'm not trading it. How much longer until Toews says he doesn't want to deal with his CIRS meds and the hockey lifestyle, Kane's play starts to fade a little, and we're stuck without a leader. If done correctly, a nice little rebuild can be done with by the time Kane needs a new contract and Toews takes a paycut and we can lure in some key free agents. The time line just makes too much sense and we have the pieces to do it that way too.
