Better D

Created by: Jtcurls
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 3, 2021
Published: Jul. 3, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
You can’t win with Reilly as your number 1

Must move a forward to improve backend. Kerfoot is useful player but cannot be afforded.

Cost of overpaying Marner and Nylander is you have to sacrifice depth. If between those two you saved 2 million a year you could afford a better backup.

Garland a cheaper younger version of Hyman who will sign UFA elsewhere for 4.5 million at least for 4 or 5 years.

Campbell is number 1 with big save Dave as decent backup. Can no longer afford Andersen who will sign in Edmonton for 4.5 million x 5. At least we will still see Freddy on HNIC late games. Unfortunately for him he will still be playing for a team with no D and be facing 35 shots a night.

Your description is muttled nonsense. Nylander is not overpaid that's been well proven at this point. Marner is 2 million overpaid I'll give you that. I am curious how not good defensively Hamilton is without Slavin on his left side? Slavin has been and is the number 1 in Carolina not Hamilton

with that bottom 6 they would be hard pressed to make the playoffs. If you sign Hamilton you have to trade Rielly because the leafs have no use for him. You get a 3 million forward and trade Engvall for a bag of pucks. That gives you 3.3 million to sign Jamie Oleksiak

Nylander is overpaid, not nearly as much as Marner but overpaid. He makes more then any of Boston’s top line, more then Braden Point a good player but over paid. Marner is of course good but also overpaid making more then stamens, kucherov and pretty much anyone else in the league. These guys took the money, maybe you or I would too, but the end result is that Dubas now doesn’t have the budget left over to fill out the rest of the roster as needed.

They are going to lose perhaps all of Hyman, Kerfoot and Andersen because of this.

The lineup is top forward heavy and the current back end mix isn’t good enough to get it done.

Agree it isn’t an ideal bottom six but not as bad as you make it.

Agree that Reilly will have to go eventually.

Love your oleksiak signing.

Oh wow, Point signed a bridge (he'll get paid) Kucherov signed a year before (the cap was lower) Tampa also has massive tax advantage (take home in Tampa is like 6 million at 7milion, in Toronto with the taxation on the contracts 6million take home is closer to 9 million. These are real things that any player would consider. It's a known fact that Marner had an OS in front of him that's called leverage.
