Keith is no longer worth 5.5 mill. and the oilers are not in a position to add his whole contract with the other positions they need to fill.
they only way keith ends up in edmonton is if CHi or a 3rd party team retains.
The 2nd rounder doesnt really help

also the main part of the trade for CHi is Caleb jones. the reason for that is to trade for his brother.
Yes i know they are looking into both but if they get caleb I would expect a very hard push for SEth vs dougie

Keith is a player I wouldn’t mind having, but you have to take cap. Either retain, and take Turris, or don’t retain and take Koskinen. We can’t afford his full contract without sending cap back.

A couple things. Caleb Jones is NOT the main part of any trade. He's the toss in Chip. His value is AMAZINGLY overrated right now. Here's how you can tell he's not the main piece. You YOURSELF are saying he's a pawn to get Seth Jones. Can't have it both ways.

As for the trade. I think the hawks should take on Mikko and waive him. Send him to the minors. There should be cap going back, BUT EDM is out of cap heck next year. $36M in space available with only Nurse needing a largish deal. EDM can still go out and make a splash in free agency if they want to.

seeing how basically the only asset for keith you will get from edmonton he is the main part of that deal for CHi as it is part of the play for seth jones.... not sure how you can say hes not when literally thats the main part chi as has asked to be in the deal. the other picks or cap dumps being included have changed accroding to sources every discussion seth has remained constant.

yes the oilers have 36 million in cap space next year. but your also ignoring the fact they need to sign players this year. a top 6 LW probably 5-6 mill a year, 3LW proabably 3mill, 3C 3mill, 3RW 2-3 mill,2LD 3-4 mill, 2RD 3-4 mill, 2 goalies 6-7 mill. that probably looking at about 20-25 mill in contacts still needed to be add. leaves 11-16 mill next year. to resign nurse probably around 7 mill. JP 3-4 mill, bear 2-3mill, so while there is an illusion of money there isnt as much as you think to just take on bad contracts to help CHi out.

Like is said. CHI has asked for him to be tossed into the deal because they want to get Seth Jones. A Pawn is NOT a main piece. Caleb Jones is a pawn and won't even start on the Hawks unless his brother is there...maybe. There's ZERO guarantee Seth Jones comes to CHI just because his brother is here. If that were the case...why isn't Seth Jones already in EDM? Why isn't EDM even on Seth Jones's list of preferred destinations?

Why aren't Staals together? Or Hughes? Or Subbans? Or Benns? Or Boqvists? Or Nylanders? Or Fleurys? Or Folignos? Or Schenns? Or Schmatlzs? Or Stromes? Or Tkachucks? Or Van Riemsdyks? Or Stones? Or Svechnikovs?

***EDIT*** I thought of more. Or Robinsons? Or Lindgrens? Or Guhles? Or Tanevs? Or Smiths? Or Ritchies? Don't you find it at least a little odd that NONE of these brothers are together? Just by chance I'd think one of these brothers would be on the same team.

I dont care the reasoning or if it will work what are the two constants in any keith trade on this site or quoted by the media???? Keith to edm Jones to CHi
there for he is the main part. they are both always there. its the main thing CHI is asking for cuz it could help them. thus he is the main part from chi side.
Idont care if you dont see value or you dont see it working out its just the facts

Yeah, but the media also isn't talking about Keith for Jones straight up with Keith retained. Most of the media I've read has another piece going to Chicago while saying Keith will play on the 2nd line in Edmonton which is where he should play. While Keith is no longer a norris guy, he's still a very solid player as a #4. I'm sorry, but 2nd line defenders are not free.

im not saying he is free... Well he might be as not they talks are from friedman they are looking at buying him out then the oilers can sign for free.
My point was yes it would be jones and another pick. however jones has stayed constant while the pick has changed making the main point of interest from the CHI brass side jones. hes not just a toss in but a player they are targeting

If, and that is a BIG if, the Hawks buy Keith out, it is simply doing him a massive favor given what he has done for the Hawks in his career. I've not read that anywhere, and IMO Friedman does a good job of reporting teams and players talking but does a horrible job projecting the actual trade or transaction. He spit balls a lot for clicks, which is fine as long as the readers understand that.

My bet is Keith retained for Jones, Neal or Koskinen and a 2nd rounder give or take a round.

its on his 31 on thoughts pod casts that talks havent progressed with oilers and are looking at the buyout potential.

Chi is a such a place of weakness on this trade aging defense, who wants out, and only have really 2 teams willing to take him

Chi gets jones and 3rd or 4th in 2022 for keith with 25% retained if they go with the trade route
