Locking in Laine to an 8x8 after the year he just had is a pretty ballsy move, rn I'd say a 2-3 year bridge is the best contract for him

I think his "off" year was all about his situation in CBJ. He has much better centers with the Jets and the Hawks can make that happen again. He can be a sniper for years to come with the Hawks and I think he would love the big city life in Chicago as well.

I wouldn’t give up Dach for Jones, but if you’re getting Jones AND Laine then Dach’s gotta be part of the package going the other way, no reason for Columbus to consider it otherwise.

edit: Also 3 of your 8 pieces have little to no value (Borgstrom, Nylander, Shaw is LTIR) so that’s not a great offer for two stars

I think CBJ fans need to come to terms that no one wants to sign there. So aquiring contracts that exceed 2-3 years is in thier benfit. Not to mention that Kubalik is a stud and some would say played better than Laine last season. Couple that with the 11th over all pick to add to CBJs existing and they have 4 first rounders and can transform this team to a bevy of young guys since they wont attract any big UFAs.

But if it wasn't just the situation in CBJ and he's simply not the player he used to be that's a horrible contract he's gotten locked into, give him even just a one year prove it deal before you sign a guy who got 24 points in 46 games to an eight year deal paying out 8 mil per year

In all honesty, I completely missed the 2021 1st rounder so that definitely makes a difference. While I don't disagree with your logic behind the trade at all, I just think it would be hard for CBJ to actually pull the trigger. Kubalik, Mitchell and the 1st are great pieces to get and the others are more so complimentary. I wonder if swapping most of those out for maybe one more player of a higher caliber does the trick?

This is definitely one of those times where OP got the shovel out and just started lobbing whatever he could find without touching the quality merchandise. A self-serving trade like this has absolutely ZERO chance of happening.

If you give him a year to "rebound" when you go back to the contract negotiations he will command at least 9.5 AVV if not more. This is a bargin for a long term deal for Laine.

But you're assuming he returns to form, if Laine continues to struggle that eight years at eight million turns into a Ryan Johansen style contract, good player, but not even close to being worth the money
