Description
Trades:
Leafs or CLB can add some prospects (none will likely need to be the highest level) to see this through. Leafs strive to get Hyman esque player while Rielly gets to QB to some skilled offence and be with a team next year that needs him and he could cash in via their cap space.

Can see Seattle taking Kerfoot or either Dermott or Holl (dermott more than holl though). Which semi alters other moves here but not that significantly.

I think Holl (especially Holl) or dermott will be moved for additional depth and or picks if Toronto goes after better top 4 defence in FA (hoping for Hamilton like most other leaf fans). I have Holl traded here but it could be dermott. If SEA takes defencemen then Kerfoot goes for similar. Picks in these trades aren't likely to be 2nd 3rd rounders but at this point we gotta go after multiple late rounders if we cant get a 2nd rounder at least. Doesn't have to be DET but I think they are darkhorse candidate for these players for reasons mentioned in trade details.

Free Agency Acquisitions.

Bozak seems like a guy who could fill in 3rd line in a pinch and might be less than 1.6mill.

Cizikas is my dream 3rd line C to build around as he is a nasty piece of work who could be fun to watch and also he would be nice to have behind Tavares and Matthews. Leafs have Anderson and can acquire dept forwards for their next 1st round picks as per tradition :) (shoot me now).

Dreidger or similar level goalie will IMO cost maybe slightly more but there is some capspace left for that.

If contracts stay what they are here the leafs can bargain bin hunt in FA later too and pick up 900k or so for depth forward or D. (more likely forward).

  4. 2022 4th round pick (TOR)
  5. 2023 6th round pick (CBJ)
  6. 2023 7th round pick (CBJ)
CBJ
  1. Rielly, Morgan
Additional Details:
Pieces are there as leafs get depth on both ends of the puck (OFF DEF). CLB gets cost controlled player for year who can QB powerplay and lead counterattacks which CLB excels at they can also afford to re-sign him next year. Might be desperate too to throw in a pick or two since jones really wants out before the start of next year.

TOR
  1. 2021 7th round pick (CHI)
  2. 2021 7th round pick (FLA)
CHI
  1. Engvall, Pierre
Additional Details:
Could be one seventh sent our way. Hell we may even send one back their way to be out of the contract. Doesn't have to be CHI.
4.
TOR
  1. 2021 2nd round pick (NYR)
  2. 2021 3rd round pick (VGK)
DET
  1. Holl, Justin
Additional Details:
DET doesnt off the top of my head have many decent defenders and matches their timeline. Also if he sucks away from muzzin that is good for 2 years. If he plays well they flip him anyways next year.

Could see decent pick or prospect come back to toronto. Trade only occurs if leafs dont get Hamilton or other top 4 defence in FA.

Detroit trade doesn't happen at all, Holl doesn't fit with Detroit, we have a full right side, we need LD. But we aren't going to pay anything to get them as there are enough cap dump options available to them. Holl also doesn't match their timeline at all being 29, they aren't interested in paying anything to acquire players over the age of 26. So you might need to find a different trade partner for him.

Detroit declines, we have 4 RD already.

Since Yzerman became GM here he has not even once paid any assets for any player over 24 years of age.

Columbus declines, Reilly isn’t signing in Columbus. Columbus isn’t trading assets for a rental.
