Finally, Roman Polak is a first pairing D in Toronto. The messiah has arrived (pt2).

In what universe. Danault not even close to marner and granted don't know much about those prospects but maybe caufield and first if marner is included and then I'd listen but even then be hesitant from what I currently know.

Danault has chances to be a Selke finalist in a few years, which Kerfoot probably won't be. A 3rd round pick doesn't close the gap.
Habs also have no reason to do that trade. Why trade our best center for another one? I haven't watched a lot of Kerfoot, but I'm pretty sure that he will never be what Danault is presently.
I understand the trade from the Leafs side, but not on the Habs side.</div></div>
I did make sure that some of the def metrics weren't super one sided. Danault may be a better shooter too which helps but he is also older and has an exp contract so will get paid if he is selke while kerfoot is under better team control and younger albeit not as good right this second.

That is fair. I can't say I watched alot of Detroit recently but they seemed like they could use just about anyone right now.

Just for fun
1. Toffoli on Boston would be pretty nasty not going to lie.
2. Your contracts seem like they could really occur and as a leafs fan this scares me.
3. What are your thoughts about Rask/Halak and the goaltending future of this team? (I know this isn't really on topic just curious)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Claesson4Norris</b></div><div>Andersen was not meaningfully better than Nilsson this year, and the Sens have Marcus Hogberg who is coming off a solid rookie season and is 100% deserving of ome of two NHL jobs. So either you're either swapping Andersen for Nilsson, which is a marginal upgrade at best, or he plays over Hogberg, at which point you probably lose him either to Waivers, or when he goes back to Sweden instead of reporting to Belleville.
Furthermore, there's no way signing Andersen ever makes sense for a team in Ottawa's position. Either he has another down season like this year, and there's no way you can give him a contract given his age, or he bounces back, but then he's likely asking for term on his next deal which is a red flag. Sens competitive window will be opening after next season, Andersen will be 32+ as Ottawa's window starts to open. That just doesn't bode well for the long term viability of the Sens with they are starting their window with a goalie on the decline.
Also even if they were interested for whatever reason, they aren't giving up Formenton. There's too much potential there for it to ever make sense.</div></div>
I think with their other forawrd options and how this year went I don't think formenton is seen as such a valuable commodity in OTT or NHL overall. I would argue that this year is an anomaly for Andersen just based on past performance but I certainly understand the concern Ottawa would have in signing him. Keep in mind that Blackwood would unlikely become a leaf as NJ would likely retain meaning we likely just keep andersen as our starter anyways. If we retain andersen then I think things work differently over the offseason to ensure we are better suited to handle his departure starting after this summer.

In the current cap situation, and given that I wouldn't expect Keefe to play him much, that 2.2M is too high. Signing Clifford instead, say at 1.25M if he accepts that, may actually work to keep some kind of physical presence.</div></div>
That is a good argument for sure. Clifford will still be a solid Reaves like player for likely less.

Toronto in 2020-2021 Trades with Calgary Anaheim Florida etc
Overall I do like this.
1. I think Weegar is coming in a bit high (2.8-3.2) but I do like the calgary and florida trades.
2.The russian goalie seems like a good venue and one toronto seems comfortable enough with (at least for positional players)
3. I think Robertson has a great chance to be 3rd line LW with Mangiapane getting more 4th line at least to start season.

interesting idea
I am not a fan of Nylander on his off wing I just don't think him or Kap play it well enough to justify the switch. Rielly for Hamilton I don't hate the idea of on a quality basis and I don't think either team is far off. However, I think for leadership qualities I think removing Rielly or Hamilton would be a mistake (unless there is something we don't know about obviously).

Kerfoot is no slouch, so I agree the difference is not that big there. I like Danault as he's more of a prototypical 3C, but he will ask for more money. So in 2 years, the Leafs will end up back to square one.
The DeMelo sign is something Leafs should consider. The Reaves one, however, no.</div></div>
I'd be curious of hearing why no to Reaves. I always like watching the guy play. I will say I didn't watch alot of Vegas this year though maybe 5 -7 times max but I liked him pretty much every time and on 1 year i don't hate the idea (clearly).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aadoyle</b></div><div>K issues
NJ matches as they got significantly more cap space and Blackwood is their new starter.
Danault is worth way more than that even if he is a rental.
Ottawa has no need of freddie they got Nilsson/Hogberg as their tandem next year.
Johnsson could probs get a third and a 5th if lucky but a 2nd would be wishful thinking. Maybe a conditional 2nd but even thats a gamble.</div></div>
1. Agree Blackwood likely is retained but a man can dream.
2. Danault is better but is not signed as long Kerfoot is younger and signed longer and produces similar to him even now. You could sweeten more from toronto's end but only if he re-signs with us.
3. See another thread for my reasoning for Ott and Andersen.
4. Johnsson I'd be down for cond 2nd but Id also consider holding onto him so we aren't trading from low point too.

Fair. I do like Kerfoot and Johnsson, however I think it would ultimately help the team a bit to fix some hole and replenish our draft stock a bit. Dubas has some good history with drafting so far at least. If we could get Danault. (many of stats I found on NHL and Cap friendly suggest their playstyle and contracts bang for buck suggest similar yields). Danault as 3rd c would be filthy even just one year.

yeah that may be an overpay (1.5 to 1.8 may be more accurate) but he would fill alot of roles for us I would think and Vegas among other teams may be in the lookout for a guy like him. Plus who wouldn't want a guy w playoff exp, fights, hits and can chip in some goals if asked. Seems like the kind of guy it would be good to have against Boston too.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Claesson4Norris</b></div><div>Ottawa is the last team who would ever trade for Andersen. They're a rebuilding team, and there's no way it makes sense for them to ever look at re-signing him, so it would be as a pure rental, in a rebuilding year, for a team that already has two NHL goalies.</div></div>
You do make fair points. I think it could work even so as Andersen is proven at NHL, would provide both short and long term stability in the position and has trust of their coach and if Ottawa will not commit to winning at some point their RFA may seek to be truly paid (ala Marner) to play in Ottawa even with their pieces. The price for the transaction is also fairly reasonable as well IMO.
