Here take all our spare pieces and gives your franchise goalie on a good contract. Why would ANA EVER except that deal?

All your castoffs in return for SIX YEARS of goaltending.

No, thanks.

Why would I need any of my current prospects not named Poehling, when most of my top 9 is signed long term. I have plenty of D prospects to give up my best LD prospect. And Primeau is 1 of the best goalie prospects not in the NHL. There's a reason why MTL's prospect pipeline ranked in the top 5 of most publications.

What's that got to do with the fact that we need exactly NONE of those guys?

We'll take our chances that Lukas Dostal = Cayden Primeau and Jacob Larsson or Josh Mahura = Mattias Norlinder. Jakob Perreault is clearly a better prospect than Jesse Ylonen and Brayden Tracey is clearly a better prospect than Jan Mysak. Byron and Lehkonen are surplus to us.

If Gibson were in the last year of his contract, we would consider this. Any more term, and it makes absolutely no sense to trade quality and quantity for quantity and no quality.

Ok so what would you want from MTL for Gibson? Suzuki, Caufield, KK Romanov and Poehling are untouchable. You want picks??

Trading John Gibson creates a six-year hole at goaltender. Trading him for assets that fill only one hole elsewhere isn't progress, it's just transfer. So it wouldn't make sense for us to trade Gibson unless we get assets that fill at least two of these holes: a scoring forward; quality at RW; quality at RD; and goalie. If that's your untouchable list, then I don't see how Montreal can give us what we need. That's especially true in light of the fact that your 2021 first is only three picks ahead of our 2021 second.

Seriously?? If I gave you 4 1sts, you'll turn it down?

Where did anybody say anything about two firsts, let alone 4?

I don't think the teams match up well for a John Gibson trade. You're not about to trade Suzuki or Caufield or Kotkaniemi, and I certainly don't blame you. The only justification for us to trade Gibson is to get early-round firsts in 2021 and 2022 plus players that can make an immediate impact. I don't see Montreal doing that. Now the Rangers have the sort of assets in depth that would interest us . . .
