Fixing the Goaltending Issue

Created by: quinnjj
Team: 2016-17 Dallas Stars
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 14, 2017
Published: Feb. 14, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If you do the math on the proposed Fleury trade and calling up Peters it's actually 100,000 less of a cap hit than trading Niemi for Fleury.

Dallas could surge up the standings with this lineup.

They would have to be able to flip a goalie and with the reduced salary it would be easier. There are teams looking for backups and also teams maybe looking to meet expansion draft criteria. Dallas threw in the 3rd rd. pick for the aggravation.

Yes let's give the Pens 3 total goalies. 2 of which nobody wants. Dallas doesn't want to keep close to 5 million on the books. Plus, why wouldn't Pens trade for something they need rather than get something they have to trade in order to get what they need. How about we just skip the middle step

Because they have to clear the salary to get what they need. Plus they can avoid a buyout of Fleury. I'm confident they could flip Niemi with a salary of 2.25 million.

Then why don't Dallas just do that themselves and put together a package with the Pens that they might actually want?

Dallas needs to do what they should of done a long time ago. Buy Lehtonen out at seasons end and trade Niemi with 50% retained and some picks and prospects for another goalie on the market like a Bishop. Bishop may not be the best goalie in the world but he's better than those two and could easily give them enough to do some damage in the playoffs. Its not like they have a ton of options either.

Dallas is in a win now mode so they can't wait for a prospect to develop or a draft pick of the future.
