The time for Youth is now

Created by: herzausstein
Team: 2021-22 Nashville Predators
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 21, 2021
Published: Jul. 21, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Forward group is full of questions but with the dgroup and the goalies we should be able to atleast hang into most games.

Thoughts:

We are stuck with Joey/Duchene. Put them with Forsberg. The line was good in the playoffs.

I really can't see Fabbro taking that contract. I would think it would be 2x5.5 . His contact would be way under his market value, especially with a 5 year deal.

I'm mostly OK with this -- though I haven't heard much on the Granlund front. Supposedly we're close with Haula? Not sure what's happening there. This wouldn't be a very scary team, but maybe we'll get some nice surprises like NJD did when they went full youth.

$5.5m?? For Fabbro?? Not a chance.

I think 3 x $2.75m is the sweet spot. On a 5 year deal, probably something like the Ekholm contract. But in all honesty, he hasn't proven much at the NHL level, and even a 1 year $1.5m type contract isn't out of the question.

Yeah, I only see Fabbro taking that $2.75M on a shorter bridge contract - not for five years.

Koskinen has negative value. EDM would need to add a sweetener and/or retain to move him. I'd rather see NSH sign a better goalie for less in free agency. Maybe Rittich.

He was healthy scratched the last part of the year and the entire playoffs. I can't see him being offered more than 3AAV per season on a long term. Ekholm signed his 6y x 3.75M after more NHL success than Fabbro has. Was trying to model the deal after that. Ellis' 5Y x 2.75M is probably more directly comparable as they had similar NHL success at that point in their career.

Pretty much the same lineup I would project.

Not sure the Ekholm-Fabbro pair stays together, i'd switch Fabbro and Carrier

Novak is interesting. Would love to see him get a shot. It would probably be Cousins/Olivier on 4th line tho

Backup G is a toss up, not a huge fan of adding Koskinen but NSH won't get anything special to backup

And Poile is a magician at getting those low AAV, long-term deals -- Ekholm, Ellis, Josi, Jarnkrok, Sissons, etc.

it's pretty spot on for what Ellis got on his 2nd contract.

Ellis prior to signing 2nd contract:
144 Games Played
11 Goals
33 Assists
44 Points

Fabbro prior to signing 2nd contract:
108 Games Played
8 Goals
16 Assists
24 Points

Offensively they're very close for that point in their careers. Probably add a bit more for inflation but if he were to get a longterm deal it would probably be somewhere in the Ekholm/Ellis range.

Novak has had a great start to his AHL career. In 90 AHL games, 19G 56A 75P. I think it's time to give him a shot in the NHL. Not sure if 4th line is the spot for him though. I had a hard time putting the lines together because i kept wanting to put some of the prospects in. I'd like to give Pitlick and Davies shots as well.

I went with Koskinen b/c he'll cost nothing to get and if he rebounds we can extend him for a reasonable price at the end of the season if Ingram doesn't bounce back in the AHL this season. Koskinen had 2 decent seasons prior to this year so i think he could bounce back not having to be the go to guy. I'm also personally hoping that Ingram bounces back this season in the AHL and can backup the year after.
