Post Expansion Draft Offseason Out of date

Description
This is all out of date because the Canes traded Calder cup nominated Alex Nedeljkovic.

I am back again with some suspect picks from Ron Francis in the expansion draft and the news that came out after, makes me adjust my sites on what I feel like can be done with this team.

I opted to give Svech a bridge this time around solely to make cap space for other moves. I would prefer to bring in on an 8 year deal though, no matter how unlikely that may be.

My mindset on Manson, Rakell are the same Manson would be a huge add to the defense and if he can stay healthy and Rakell could provide more scoring options.

I swapped Bean out for the first round pick. I think that has a lot of value and could honestly see the Canes being able to do that form of trade. And the condition is just on the account of Manson's health.

What can I not say about Brandon Saad his run with the Avs was nothing short than impressive. If the Canes can find a way to bring him in it improves their depth scoring drastically and could be a great fit alongside Trocheck and Necas allowing Nino to slide down to the third line with Staal and just be pure hell (can i say that on capfriendly? guess we will find out lmfao). Even if Nino was to stay with Necas and Trocheck, Saad could be a force on that third line.

Martinez is a bit of a bias pick and me thinking that a 33 year old defenseman wont get a massive contract, I think he could still be a fantastic add to the team and could really help the power play and run it effectively.

Hamonic has been linked to the Canes a lot for the past few years, so honestly I just threw it in because I didn't see a way with adding other free agents being able to add Yandle or Suter. I think he could be a good fit, but I would not be upset if he didn't come here.

Jake Gardiner to LTIR is both a dream and assumption. His health is a concern, but it is also possible he can come back and play. If he did play I would be happy because he has been a good fit with the Canes after he found his groove. But if his back really is having issues makes me wonder.

I don't think I need to explain Ned. Allows him to prove himself as a NHL starter, and is good value for a deal.

Reimer will be a good serviceable backup and can step in whenever the Canes need him too. I had major concerns about his game last season which I won't go into too much detail here, but as long as Reimer starts once every three or so games I think its fine.

The taxi squad here is being used to put in potential depth and prospect pieces who could play for the team if there is an injury or someone under performs.

Sellgren is really close to being a NHL defenseman even with not having much play time in the AHL. He was great in the Charlotte Checkers Calder Cup run. Has a fantastic stick, and is just very smart.

Bokk looked good with the Chicago Wolves and I would love to see him get a crack at the NHL and see if his offense can carry over.

Jack Drury is going to be a fun player, he is pretty much a Jordan Staal lite and throwing him on for the fourth line and allow him to shadow Staal could do fantastic work for his career. With his offensive upside as well I am excited for him to make an appearance.

Max Lajoie will be interesting, his appearance for the Canes last season gave me a good look at what he could be. He seems to be a decent defenseman at the NHL at this moment and probably has a higher ceiling, it may take another season of development since it seems like the Senators rushed it, but I am excited to see what can come of him. (1000000 is a placeholder contract of the absolute most he could make. Do not read into that number at all)

Trades
CAR
  1. Manson, Josh
  2. Rakell, Rickard
Additional Details:
This is the same trade as my last one. The mindset really does say the same. The value of adding manson and Rakkell really can bring a lot of value to the team. With both having one year deals it also allows the canes to get good value and if either doesn't work out you can re-sign them or let them walk depending on the production.
ANA
  1. Bean, Jake [RFA Rights]
  2. Foegele, Warren [RFA Rights]
  3. Puistola, Patrik [Reserve List]
  4. 2021 2nd round pick (CAR)
  5. 2021 7th round pick (LAK)
  6. 2022 4th round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
Condition: the 2022 4th round pick will become a 3rd round pick if Josh Manson plays at least 75% of the games in the 2021-2022 season or 75% of playoff games if the Hurricanes make it to the Eastern Conference Finals.

The ducks can’t trade both Manson and Rakell and not get a single first round pick. Come one man, this trade is terrible.
On a side note, the ducks will get a better package by trading them separately.

I think that is fair and easily possible for a first! I just wonder how much them both being on expiring deals, and how much Jake Bean has in value. If it required a first i wouldn't be surprised at all. As well as Manson's injury concerns that does drive home a few questions for me.

They could maybe get more for them individually, teams are willing to pay premiums, I can for sure concede to that.

A lot of pieces in Ducks trade but I’d assume they’re looking for more quality and less quantity.

That Svech deal isn’t a bridge deal - that walks him to UFA. 2-3 years is more likely, 5 isn’t happening.

I think that is fair, but at the same time but I think at the same time it depends on how much value they see for a guy like Bean and Foegele. Apparently teams really value Foegele and Bean has some real potential. But I can for sure see something more enticing being needed.

Ah, thanks for that clarification. I was thinking that a bridge would be anything from 2-5 years. Glad I got that cleared up.
