I don’t think Buchnevich is fetching a top 10 pick and two early 2nds when he’s an arb-eligible RFA one year from UFA lol. Zac Jones is of no interest to Ottawa as a left shot D, we already have Chabot/Sanderson/Brannstrom as well as Mete/Kleven.

Why would Ottawa trade all of that for Buch when they could trade less and get Reinhart?

Nope. Like you can get a 1st in the 15-31 range and a decent B prospect but nothing more

Think Kapenan trade but you need to negotiate a new contract lowering value a bit

Personally, in a market that evaluates players close to accurate. Buchnevich should definitely get a pick that high. He is easily a top 10 player in his draft, and this most recent draft has been reported to be the weakest in a while in terms of star power. Also, the fact that he is an RFA with one year left before UFA seeking a long term contract is a point for me lol. The rest of your argument is fair, looking back I probably wouldn't have added the second and tried a RHD dman instead.

That's a fair question. The only thing I would've told you at the time was that I didn't think Buffalo would want to trade Reinhart within Division. Of course, that ended up not being the case but that doesn't take away that it would've made sense. Still though, I don't think the gap between Reinhart and Buchnevich is that significant, you could argue they are kind of in the same level. So Buch I believe should get you a first and a decent prospect (Admittedly, I grabbed Jarventie because i didn't recognize his name, I figured he'd be a B/C prospect). Looking back, trading Jones to Ottawa wouldnt make sense and thus negating the 2nd round pick which admittedly was high for Jones.

How is anything a point for you? Here’s my trump card, he went for a single 2nd round pick and a 4th liner lmao

It's a point for me because you have more control over his contract as an RFA than an UFA and youre not losing him to free agency...duh. You can give him closer to what you want. So whatever small decrease you can get is a win considering youre buying his bargaining UFA years.

Also, your trump card is a trade that everyone agrees was lopsided and bad trade for NYR. Drury did a bad job with that one, thats why I preficed my statement with "in a market that evaluates players close to accurate. He traded a first line winger for a 2nd and a 4th liner.

He’s still not worth close to a 1st and two 2nds, or even just the 1st. Enough other teams need right shot wingers that if any of them thought he was worth a 1st the Rangers would have got one (Florida, Calgary, etc.). Clearly this was the most appealing deal Drury could find.

Drury very much carelessly rushed to get rid of Buchnevich to get gritty players because theyre still traumatized by Tom Wilson. He APPROACHED STL Blues for the cap dump and STL Blues wow sure why not this is good for us. Regardless of the trade final value and skewed market values, it doesnt take away from the fact that Buchnevich is a top line winger. So for you or anyone to play revisionist history and say 'it doesnt matter now because he got traded for a 2nd and a 4th liner lulz' is a weak argument. It is not my perogative to predict the dumb moves GMs will do in the future. I assessed Buchnevich's ability and researched accordingly for players with similar skill and what they got in return.

I'll meet you half way though, as you could probably see in the comments section, I've agreed that if I redo the trade I would probably not include either the prospect or the 2nd round pick instead of both, and change the LHD to an RHD.

Now that we know what the return was, I can say that I'd definitely rather have Roby and the 10th overall pick than Blais and a mid to late 2nd. So given what Drury accepted, this was definitely still a bit of n overpay after taking Jones and the 2nd out. Reinhart still wouldve made for a better fit as a centre.
