Its a late first pick.

Kerfoot has term and a reasonable cap hit. He's versatile, he can penalty kill, and he's a proven playoff performer. There is a lot to like.

Kerfoot also has a bad history with the Devils and doesn't have that type of value

Maybe it's a bad trade. Playoff teams will be looking to trade for Kerfoot, not rebuilders who pick first every other draft.

I don't think anybody is giving up a first for him. McCann just got traded for a decent prospect and a 7th and he has more value than Kerfoot.

In normal circumstances, yes, you're right, but that was a pre-Expansion trade. The Pens were in a bind. Everyone knew Seattle wanted McCann so the price for him was not that high. The Pens were happy to get whatever. They went with the Leafs offer because they were familiar with Hallander.

But don't you think that if Kerfoot could fetch a first that Seattle would have taken him and flipped him for a first? Similar to what they did with Pitlick. Just seems like it's a better time to be a buyer right now than a seller with the trades that have happened so far this offseason.

Seattle has done puzzling moves. Francis probably would have demanded 2 1sts if the reports about his asking prices are true. No one wanted to trade with him.

Kerfoot is an attractive piece for a lot of teams. He might not fetch a 1st, but he has good trade value.
