Snap reactions: Hamilton is not taking anything less than 10 mil, and you can get way more for both Donskoi and Dunn

Hamilton is Arguably the best offensive defenseman in the league and Erik Karlsson got 11,5. Alot of teams want Hamilton and every team is willing to pay 8,5 for hamilton + hes a free agent so he would wanna go to a cup contender and not an expansion team. if seattle is gonna land Hamilton i think they migt have to pay north of 11 and i think 1 GM will pay atleast 10

EK was paid way too much, that’s a bad decision by SJ. That doesn’t set the benchmark for all teams to hand out stupid contacts. Also you’re probably forgetting that SEA is in the same boat as TB/FLA/ARZ with the taxes.. him taking 8 in SEA is like taking 11 anywhere else.

Im not American so i dont know for sure but after some quick research the diff (New york state vs Washington state) is 900 k if you earn 10 mill. Still Why would he want to sign in seattle? when he have 29 other teams interested? Hamilton have already declined offers from seattle or he would have been taken in the expansion draft. anyways it doesnt matter because OG have plenty of capspace to get the deal done

So the difference between those 2 are 10% of the contract which is a lot considering your thoughts are that it’s about $. So let’s say he gets 11.5M but is taxed about 1.2M but what about all other states and Canadian teams. I would bet there are some other teams out there where the taxes are even higher which means while 29 teams are interested in him, he may only be interested in a small % of them. He may not have agreed to anything with SEA because he is still testing waters and if you’re going to go to SEA, you may want them to take a kid like Geekie to help also. If I like the contract SEA offers me I’m telling them to draft a guy who will help the team in the long run, then pull the sign and trade or UfA signing. Can’t rule this concept out
