My crack at of escaping being in a painted corner

Description
Signings:

Kuraly: one of the best defensive centres in the NHL, with size to boot. Makes 4th unit much better as a shut diwn line.

Bozak: This is a Dubas special lol. Great vet with a Cup. Depsite his age, can still throw up 30-40 points (which his last two seasons in St Louis he would have done over 82). One of the better face off guys in the game. Finishes his career where it began.

Reimer: has been a solid tender thoughout his stops, if anything.... consistent. A perfect compliment to Campbell in what has to be a tandem situation. See 35 games here with a .910 sv% and a GAA under 3. Won't be Price, but he will win games.

Coleman: We can all likely agree he would be an ideal Hyman replacement. Some may say the money is off. Hall got $6 million over 4 years. Goodrow got $3.6 million with his deal. Coleman is no Hall, but is an offensive upgrade over Goodrow. I come in at $4.5 million - what I would say Hyman is worth too.

Smith: a depth siging (really a about a $750-900K deal) for a 7th D. Best thing about Smith? Can pkay 3 positions.

Overall, Dubas has not much to work with. Likely to see more of these vet signings on cheap deals.

If I accomplished anything here, it maybe giving the Leafs better centre depth - although it doesn't solve the issue of what happens if Austen or JT go down. Replaced Hyman with should be a market contract.

Robertson gets a full year with the Marlies to round out his game so he can be a top 6 forward in 22-23 out of the gate..... still would be choice one for the call up.

Liligren needs a full healthy season to get his game back on track. Best be doing that with the Marlies. Being a 7th D does nothing for him right now... 100% call up material, but......

Brooks starts on the 4th line, but can easily play up to the 3rd. The guy produces whenever he is called up. He needs to stick.

Robertson? switch Kuraly and Brooks

As I said in my breakdown, I leave Robertson to play a full year with the Marlies. In 22-23, he flanks one of the top two units seemlessly. Just don't see him.there right now.

Brooks-Kuraly, potato - potatoe. Whoever plays centre is interchangable. Lol. Could go back and forth. In 22-23, I see Brooks centring the 3rd line.

Could also use Mikheyev/Kuraly/Simmonds as a checking line (because Mikheyev, bless him but he cannot pass, deke or shoot anymore. Basically a PK and zone exit specialist) and Brooks/Bozak/Spezza as a depth scoring line. I'd bring back Galchenyuk as well, and it's been reported he wants to stay in Toronto (it's like his 8th franchise and he works as a depth scoring and forechecking winger).

I agree with u saying u can see Brooks being an effective 3C, but I'd rather have him playing 4C because if he moves up itll be a centre position. idk not a big deal either way youre right there. but i would love to see Robertson in this lineup next year. he should at least split the season half in AHL half in NHL

I can see Galy back for sure. Leafs have options on in the bottom 6. All about cheap short term contracts. Galy over Smith still works for me, but leaves that blueine thin.

I like that 4th unit as well lol. One thing Dubas has done well is have options out the ying yang in the bottom 6 lol.

Half the season for sure. He needs icetime - which he would have had last year if the AHL was running a full sched. This is playing catch up.

Robertson is a fabulous prospect that cannot be messed up. But if his game after 30-40 games with the Marlies shows he has nothing to prove there, you call him up 100%

I created an ACGM with Kuraly as the fourth line centre as well. I think he would be the ideal guy. Coleman is the guy as well if he doesn’t sign in Dallas.

Smith is decent depth. I think there might be a mutual desire between Hutton and the Leafs as well though.

So many moving pieces this season that it makes it hard to predict. I was hoping Coleman, Goodrow and Kuraly would replace Hyman, Kerfoot and Thornton. Oh well.

I think Leaf fans should get off this Coleman fantasy and have a roster of at least 22 players .Don't mind the signings the Leafs need Brook or Semeyov or both to play centre otherwise it'sKerfoot at 3C. Easy to get a LWer than to sign a competent 3C

I suppose the taxi squad isn't making a return then, so that makes sense. In that case I'm behind Smith as well but I'd like to find a way to keep both him or a player similar to him, and Galy too. I also don't think we'll land Coleman, so I've been doing an ACGM with Haula/Bonino as depth center or wing options and trying to make that work with a sub $3M goalie like a Reimer type. I've also liked Kuraly as a player and think he could work. And I'm not sold on Mikheyev anymore. My concern with Semyonov could be usage again, like Barabanov not working in Toronto despite showing some promise, then gets shipped to San Jose as a favour and does quite well there in their top 6, although I don't see the same standout skills in Semyonov from the footage I've watched.
