I honestly have no clue what Tampa would be willing to take for Stamkos. I could see them accepting a decent winger and a second or 3rd or I could see them wanting a lot. His NMC may make things tricky as well.

He flat out refused to waive last year isn't waiving this year and next isn't looking to likely either. He gave up a bunch of money to stay in TB because he loves living in the area.

I've never understood why someone would enact the NMC. If the team comes to you and is looking to trade you, wouldn't you think they don't value you as much as you should be? I get it's great living in Tampa, no state tax, and the team is awesome, but if it were me it would be tough for management to say we are looking to trade you and for me to want to stay.

I'm just the opposite if I give up hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars to control where I work and live I'm not waiving it.
His contract is almost buy-out proof also his base pay is only 1 million per year the rest is a guaranteed bonus not subject to buyout so they'd save 667 k cap space

Agree to disagree. Just a difference in opinions. I understand not wanting to go somewhere like Buffalo or Ottawa, but if they said "look we are sending you to somewhere competitive and ready to win like Vegas, still no state tax" I wouldn't mind.

From a very superficial standpoint, he's contributing to the team success statistically and he probably feels like he's an important part of the team and there is no reason to trade him. And he'd be right in a sense. Having 2 one timer threats on each side (Stamkos and Kucherov) gives Point and Hedman open space since teams aren't as focused on them. If the entire game was just a powerplay, Stamkos could win the Rocket again cause with time and space his shot is lethal. He puts up points consistently, he's a huge locker room guy, he's the captain, he's a big reason for this team winning 2 straight cups. However, he plays 2nd line minutes 5 on 5, he doesn't get to start shifts in the offensive zone as much the 1st line, he's the third option when the team needs goals and he makes 8.5 mil. Next year Point is probably signing for 9 (QO) so he'd be the 4th highest paid forward on the team. I could only see him waiving if he's got a desire to play top line center again on a team that's just as offensively gifted like a Vegas. But I doubt it.

Would still be awfully tough to go to work every day knowing that management doesn't want me there.

Maybe it's not that they don't want you it may be they can't afford your salary in a cap world. They come and say hey we love you Steven but that cap hits hurts can you give us a waive

If they wanted you that bad, they'd find a way to keep/get you. Toronto did with Tavares, Vegas did to get Pietrangelo.

You're certain they didn't ask him to waive and get turned down and figure it out?

I'm sure that happened. If management asked him to waive they think they can win without him. I'd say trade me to these teams and I'll win it without you.

McCann trade doesnt make sense as Pittsburgh would have made that deal before expansion as Vegas was exempt. Forget McCann as Vegas didnt want him when he was practically free!

You are absolutely certain Toronto didn't say JT can ya waive and he said no or VGK didn't say hey Alex can you do us a solid and he said nah I love it here. I'm not saying they did but unless you're Kyle dubas or someone on the inside that that conversation didn't happen

Oh no, sorry I was referring to Stamkos being asked to waive last summer. There were some reports that said they may be looking to move on last summer from him. I'm sure Tavares and Pietrangelo haven't been approached to waive. I was speaking to if they wanted Stamkos that bad, they'd find a way to keep him. Reports of asking him to waive show they think they can win without him. If I'm Stamkos I want to show them that I can win without them.

So if I'm Stamkos I'd say I'm willing to waive for Vegas and you'll regret getting rid of me when Vegas wins the cup.
