Huge overpay for Tarasenko. Going to need a lot of retention if you are sending Bailey and a past first rounder that’s progressing as if he’s likely to be an NHLer.

Ottawa declines.

It costs a 2nd round pick to dump Komarov without another draft pick going back the other way.

Yeah 3M is about a 2nd round pick return although Leo is a useful bottom 6 player. Maybe a GM values him enough to justify a 3rd in return.

Komarov was placed on waivers this season and nobody claimed him.

That means an actual GM would not value him as much as you say.

Sorry smile

Oh no he is definitely not worth his salary which is why a gm would want a pick to acquire him. My point is a gm might justify a 3rd in return instead of a 2nd if he plans on plugging Leo into his fourth line.

Honestly, I think the Islanders under Lou Lamoriello are going to end up keeping around.

He put up good 4th line minutes during the playoffs.

He is also the type of player that Lou respects and has known for years.

I agree but the problem he put up all FIRST line minutes last post season because Barry thought he could fill Anders Lee’s role on that line and it was awful. If Leo is the 13th forward and plays bottom 6 minutes he is a useful piece. I really just want him gone to take away Trotz’s toy lol.

Detroit says no. We have no need for depth players.

And how many players above league minimum were picked off of waivers this past year?

League minimum from last year was 700k.

San Jose claimed Rudolfs Balcers from us while we claimed Victor Mete from Montreal.

They both made 735k.

So, those are two examples.

Not sure if there are others frown

Looking at it more closely, Sami Vatanen was claimed by Dallas and Christian Djoos was claimed by Detroit.

Everybody else claimed off waivers this year have cap hits under a million each.

So, yeah, it doesn't happen that often.

That doesn't stop GMs like Lou Lamoriello from taking time out of their day to place Komorov on waivers after thinking it over however.

Pretty sure Lou would have been really happy to see Komarov taken, but he knew that he wouldn't be because of the flat cap (and the fact that his contract still had 1.5 years at that point). Now at 1 X $3 million his contract looks a lot more interesting, especially for teams that could use a 3rd/4th line veteran presence.
