Is this one of those, because it isn't clearly better then it's worse takes? How is subtracting Hyman and Galchenyuk for Bunting, Kampf, Ritchie and Kase worse? Hell if 2 of those guys pan out better than expected the team is way better off. Couple that with the likelihood that Matthews, Marner and Nylander are still going to improve along with guys like Sandin, Dermott and possibly the emergence of Liljegren or Robertson and this team could be much better.

Spezza plays over Engvall. He scored more goals against the Habs in the playoffs than Matthews and Marner
Combined.

Ritchie had as many goals as hyman did without matthews or marner and is actually ok defensively, bunting and kase are at worst as good as galch and kampf is better than Thornton.
How are they worse?

Don't like losing Hyman....but geez IMO Thornton and Foligno didn't much, so LW could be as good as last season with the additions. I don't know why so many are down on Engvall and Mikheyev. I would hate to lose them because of the cap. Their possible replacements aren't as good unless Roberson steps up and becomes an NHLer this season.
Defence about the same as last year. Bogosian was fine. Leafs are hoping Sandin and LIljegren can step up and be NHLer.
Doubt if Campbell can have a winning streak like he had last season, But Mrzarek should be an improvement over last years edition of Andersen.

I think I believe less in the goaltending.

I'm skeptical on the goaltending.
