Description
Well Jets fans, the team has been mushed by the Whit Dog.

He gave the Jets the moniker of the most improved Canadian team and that they are right there in terms of cup contention. Looks like we’ll be seeing a very mediocre season out of the Jets now LOL

Here’s what I think will happen with Copp and Pionks arbitration dates being set. Pionk on August 13th and Copp on August 26th. I used Ken Wiebe’s contract predictions for Copp and pionk. Jets likely try and get Copp locked up before arbitration on a longer term deal, I think pionk makes it to arbitration and is awarded a 1 year deal somewhere in the neighborhood of 5-5.5 million.

Schmidt spoke about potentially playing with Morrissey, so I’ve based my pairings on the backend on that comment. He talked about playing on the right side with Morrissey, or playing with pionk, while having Morrissey move to the right side to play with Dillon.

Hot take for this post is that Kovacevic will be the extra dman after a very strong camp, beating out NB for that spot.

Perfetti gets a full season in the AHL, playing top line minutes and 1st PP. Should be able to really improve on his skating and strength over the year. Will 100% get his 9 games. Heinola and Samberg will partner up in the AHL playing 24 minutes a night in every scenario. Also very likely both guys get games in with inevitable injuries.

One thing I am skeptical about from the beat reporters are their estimates based on a 22-man roster for the entire season to achieve cap compliance. Once the Jets have one (non-LTIR) injury then they are paying for another player on the roster and their cap balancing act falls apart, as there are bound to be be several throughout the season which may add up to at least one roster player. While having the Moose in the same city can help to keep the daily roster size small, the Jets and the Moose are only in the same area for 24 of 82 games this season (23 times in Winnipeg, and 1 time in Texas).

Yeah I know, something likely has to give, not sure what that is. Maybe Copp is moved in a sign and trade. It’s not viable to run a 22 man roster with only 950k in cap space. Like you said if the Jets run into any non-LTIR injuries it could get dicey.

I agree and Copp is the candidate to be odd man out, as I can't see Pionk signing another bridge since he proved himself over both years of his current bridge deal.

I did a quick calculation and if we just look at IR replacements last year -- so excluding guys who were out for a few days without being put on IR and LTIR guys -- the Jets had an equivalent of about $1 million on the cap (pro-rated to an 82 game schedule) spent on replacements for IR players by my estimate.

If all you are worried about is the 22 man roster, get someone from the A at 750K are you still beat the cap

If the Jets have an injury year like 18-19 or 20-21 they won't beat the cap. I excluded 19-20 because the way they accounted for the Little injury makes that look so much worse than it was.
