22-23 Pens - The Slow Rebuild Begins

Created by: Mr_Gardoki
Team: 2022-23 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 7, 2021

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trading off parts for futures while signing some FA's. The Pens really won't be a major destination for quality FA's, but I tried to as best I can value the UFA's I signed.

  1. 2023 3rd round pick (ANA)
ANA
  1. Pettersson, Marcus
Additional Details:
I'd imagine Lindholm signs with a team to take his shot at a cup, so the need for LD grows for ANA.

  2. 2023 3rd round pick (CGY)
  3. 2023 4th round pick (CGY)

Additional Details:
Zucker will be a good middle six plug for a season with all the UFAs CGY will have. Only one year left on his contract and is an upgrade for Lucic.

I might not be as high on Marino as you - but even going with your assessment of him - what changes between 21-22 and 22-23, with regards to NSH's RD depth?

A lot changes. This site is pretty great. It lets you see years into the future. You'd see that NSH only has three dmen signed for the 22-23 season. Two of them are the aforementioned RD's that aren't nearly as good as Marino whether you think so or not.

Oh no! How will they ever replace Matt Benning? He's the only RD they'll lose between those two seasons.

The Preds don't need a roster RD at Marino's cap hit for the near future. That cap space and the assets acquiring Marino would cost could be better spent bringing in more top six help.

OMG! Why would you want to become a better team by adding an RD who is significantly better!?!?! Craziness!

Even accepting your assertion that Marino is significantly better then Carrier or what Fabbro can be, it's not worth the assets you want from NSH when they have greater needs elsewhere.

No from MN. They have enough wings, glaring holes at center and the d-corps, and a ton of dead cap.
