"Good" is not enough when trading for a player like Kaprizov. And I firmly believe Ottawa's pick will be somewhere in the 10-15 range. I'd like to swap all those good-not-great prospects to an elite one.

Sens shouldn't ruin their future and their cap for one player. Leafs gave in to the 3 RFAs who signed underservingly high contracts (at the time), which has weakened their team with cap restraints.
Ottawa and Minni shouldn't give in a one year wonder.

Dont think Melnyk will hand out those kind of contracts if this trade did go through. OTT is set for the future, all they have to do is stay the course and things will work out. Kaprizov should be MINs #1 priority but they might have messed it up by handcuffing themselves with the Suter/Parise buyouts. Dont think this trade is in either teams interest.

That’s a pretty heavy return, I’d take it from the Wild POV all day.

IMO this is a solid proposal. The value is pretty good, with my only real complaint being Sogaard. I’d probably rather just see a 2nd instead, since Wild have Talbs/Kahk and just drafted Wallstedt.

I do think that’s pretty much exactly what Kap is asking for on a contract, so I think it’s more that OTT wouldn’t offer it vs him not signing. Overall good thought experiment here, though.

Honestly, this is a good return especially if the 1st isn’t lotto protected which I would insist on and we aren’t retaining. Brannstrom is ready to go, and LAK is apparently willing to part with assets for a young offensive minded LHD. Pinto is gonna be a 3C after a year in the AHL and Formenton is an interesting pick. I’d hazard to say this is an overpay by OTT.

Value wise, yeah, this is good. There's just prospects the Wild don't need (Sogaard, Wild has Wallstedt) or players who quite don't fit their timeline. If they trade Kaprizov, they're heading for a rebuild and I believe they'd prefer to take a flyer on a younger, more elite prospect than get a bunch of 22-year-olds.

IDK. A lotto pick next year, Brannstrom, and Pinto sound a lot like the caliber and age of return I’d want. Sure, haggle over Norris vs. Pinto but the idea is pretty good.

That's what I'm saying, the value is correct. But as the Wild, would you not take, say, Sanderson over those four guys? He would be a much better fit and I believe his value matches those four guys'.

Honestly? I’d rather have Pinto. If giving up some other pieces gets you Norris then sure but getting forward prospects is almost always more valuable than a d man. Sanderson isn’t much of an upgrade on a Pinto and Brannstrom package.

I also don’t think there’s a world where OTT parts with Sanderson.

I believe the Senators would much rather trade Sanderson than Norris. If the Wild wanted him, they'd almost have to trade Kaprizov 1 for 1.

Also, how is getting forwards more valuable than defensemen? I'd much rather have a 19-year-old dman with top-pair potential than a possible 2nd pairing guy and a 2nd liner. Especially since defensemen tend to mature slower, so they could have a diamond in Sanderson. He is younger and has a higher ceiling (and I believe floor, too) than both of Pinto & Bransstrom. He absolutely is an upgrade on Pinto&Brannstrom
