What would you propose a Suzuki extension to be?

IMO I think it’s too early to get a deal done for both sides.

If Kotkaniemi gets 3x3 and Thomas1x4.11, and Suzuki is much better, it probably starts 2x5...

I’d say 3 years between 6M and 7,25M or 2 years between 5M and 5,75M

What would 'less' be in a Tarasenko trade. If trading him means keeping Thomas a trade already starts Thomas, plus whatever the return would be. A couple of picks makes it a good trade. Maybe Carolina keeps their 3rd and 5th and does a Niederreiter, 3rd and 5th for Tarasenko and just forget Lehkonen....

That’s probably close on the 3 year term, but what incentive does Suzuki have to sign this now? It’s not like he’s going to regress this season. The only way is up, especially with a full season of Caufield on his wing.

Montreal have the cap space to match a max offer of 5,85M for KK. I don’t think any team would offer that kind of money.

100% agree with you. However, on MTL side, ths talk should start sooner than later. You don’t want Suzuki as an RFA the next season considering you did 2 offer sheets in the 3 years :P. Cap situation next year might be difficult.

I understand your point! However, Lehkonen trade would already be done. Basically, STL would have to decide if they want to trade Tarasenko for a lower price by matching thomas offer sheet or decline Thomas offer sheet and have more time to trade him.

Where can i find the rule for max offer for every RFA? Also I want to learn about overage (cuz i do get that it's a penalty but how does it work?)

During the offseason all the teams can go up to 10% more than the cap (can exceed by 8,15M). At the moment, MTL have a projected cap hit of 83,78M. 89,65M (81,5M + 8,15M) - 83,78M = 5,87M. If a team offered KK a 6M deal MTL couldn’t match because they would be over 10%

Well I’m not 100% sure about this since it doesn’t really matter other than in this scenario, but couldn’t the habs put Weber on off-season LTIR to free up some room?

I would too, but that’s unlikely to happen, especially before this season.

I’m pretty sure you can only put players on LTIR at the start of the season.

From CapFriendly’s LTIR FAQ section:

Can LTIR be used in the off-season?
Yes, LTIR can be used in the off-season while the 10% off-season cushion is active. LTIR in the off-season is calculated using the basic equation outlined above, which permits a team to exceed the off-season salary cap. To use off-season LTIR the team must provide doctors proof that the player in question will continue to be injured at the beginning of the regular season for 10 NHL games and 24 calendar days.

At the start of the season the teams LTIR relief & ACSL is recalculated when the 10% cushion is removed.
