If Jones and Nurse are the comparables, then the standards are low. Rielly will be 28 next year so signing him to a 7Y contract isn't a good thing.
"a #1 guy" is debatable. At best, someone should offer $7Mx4-5Y. But he is probably getting 6-7Y and <$7.5M.

I mean Rielly is better than Krug and everyone else on free agency the last couple years other than Hamilton and Pietrangelo.

I dont think you know how good Rielly is if you think he's worth 7Mx4. If he signed for 7Mx6 I'd be ecstatic.

I know Rielly will likely not be a 1st pair D when he's 34-35 hence why the 4-5Y term over 6-7Y.

I'm not sure he is better then Krug, Id say Rielly is closer to Tyson Barrie then he is to either Jones or Nurse. I think Reilly is a solid #2 dman on a team that has great defensive dman. If he signed 8mil for 7 years hes maybe earning that annual salary for half of that contract at best i'd say then you are left overpaying him on that back end. Dont see the flames doing the deal to begin with, and you may be bang on with Rielly's next being an 8mil per deal but i dont think the team that pay him is going to like how that deal looks in 3-4 years.
