Whatever it is, the Canucks accept unless cap is coming back.

I’m not sure you fully understand LTIR.

You would save the same amount of cap space simply burying NAK in the minors as you get in this trade. This is just a waste of picks for philly

Well don’t tell him that. We’d happily take those picks.

it's not.

We want to carry 14 forwards. we're only under the cap because we're projecting to carry 13. Right now it's NAK, Frost, Allison, and Lacynski all vying for the 11-13 forward spot. Allison looked good in the home stretch for us, so I think he can make the big club; but that would put us over the cap by just a bit if we carry all all 4.

Trading for an LTIR player alleviates the problem; plus gives us a few extra million for call up's and such during the season.

The alternative is trading for Kesler to use the LTIR relief. I figured Ferland would be a little cheaper and NAK could also slot into your bottom 9 lineup.

Obtaining an LTIR doesn't give a team more cap relief. Would is this obsession you have with this?

yes it does. How do you think TB made it through the whole season and then playoffs when Kucherov suddenly was well enough to play when the cap didn't count?

It's a terrible loophole where teams acquire a player that will never play again, but are still under contract. You have someone making 3.5 who can't play. They get thrown onto LTIR and now the team is allowed to go spend 3.5 more than what the team is currently at cap-wise. Hence, Flyers are currently <500K under the cap. They get Ferland and put him on LTIR, then they get 3.5 million minus the <500K, so they still end up close to 2 mill under the cap.

I know how Tampa made it through the season with Kucherov on LTIR, and then got to play him in the playoffs. I'm surprised you don't.
Tampa had a 22 man roster I believe, and were at very close to the 81.5m throughout the season. Kucherov comes back for the playoffs....no difference to the cap.
Now if Ferland was on LTIR for the whole season, and then Ferland came back to play for the whole season, yes, it help the Flyers in the playoffs.
Sorry, by your post, the Flyers are still just 432,000 with a 22 man active roster, if Ferland is LTIR as a Flyer or Canucks.
