Let's start with simple math:
Okposo has a $6 million cap hit for two years. Athanasiou has a cap hit of $2.7 million. Ergo, this proposed trade increases LA's cap by $3.3 million. LA has $2.7 million in cap space with a full roster ready to go to training camp.
Now, to merit: Okposo is a pure cap dump. MacInnis is 26 years old with only 25 games in the NHL despite having been a second-round draft pick, i.e., a bust and an AHL lifer. The fourth-round draft pick wouldn't be adequate compensation for the Kings if they were giving you a seventh-round draft pick in 2024, so asking for an actual NHL middle-6 forward is absurd. Add to that the fact that LA's only trade interest right now is for a young LD prospect, and it should be obvious why the Kings would never consider this offer for more than 3 nanoseconds.
