Oh, probably. It's just a low-end considering what Svech got (who's the better player). KK would get a bit more than Necas because he plays center, and they probably want Necas around Turbo's rate (but a bit more expensive in order to get the 8 year term).

Why pay market value for 30 points guys when you can 6+ millions offer sheet healthy scratches... Canes are going to have a hard time low balling Necas after that. Habs would have thought twice at 4.5 millions but at 6.1 for 1 year (6.4 next year), they are not touching that offer sheet.

The KK offer sheet was purely retaliatory. As a result, I'm pretty sure Bergy isn't going to do one again LMAO!

They're not "low-balling" anybody, especially their young core guys. In the end, Svech and the Canes were able to agree to the full eight. I'm sure they'll do the same with Necas and maybe Kotkaniemi next offseason. If you ever listen to the Canes FO and how they do business, they don't view things in terms of a low-vs.-high ball. They have a ballpark about what your value is. If you think that your value is higher, then they'll let you find it on the open market. Dougie, for example, was able to get a super-high offer from NJ, and the Canes decided not to match it. A player like Martinook, however, tested the market and found the Canes offer comparable to other teams. It just depends.

Sure you can put a guy in front of the faceoff dot, but if he loses most faceoffs and can't play defense, is he really a center.

That's not what I saw with Kotkaniemi LOL. That guy isn't great at the dot yet, but he was only 20 years old last season, and he already has good defensive awareness, especially for his age.

Why not? Its not like the Canes can make cap space the next few seasons to go after Caufield or Suzuki seriously.

You know that the Canes have no qualms about letting good players walk in free agency, right?

Should make you worried about them letting Kotkaniemi walk next season rather than pay that qualifying offer.

I'm having trouble agreeing when I see extremely talented players like Teravainen who was coming off 64 and 76 points seasons only presented a 5.4M contract. In most team 2 straight years with that type of production is enough to claim the 100k / point market value.
