I don't understand why the islanders would want Rielly. He doesn't really fit their system

Leafs should accept that, but they will want someone to replace Rielly

Beat me to it
I don’t think we will see a Rielly to NYI trade

Is it enough? Yeah sure.

Does Toronto accept it? Not a chance.

It's not always about pure value in trades. Toronto is trying to contend for a cup, and a couple of 1sts don't help them do that. They're gonna want roster players back. Specifically either a young centre with top 6 potential, young left handed winger with top 6 potential, or a defenceman with top 4 potential.

I don't think Rielly is worth two first rounders, but a 1st and maybe a prospect? I'd say yes if an extension can be worked out, otherwise I wouldn't give up more than a 2nd + mid level prospect.

I don't think Rielly gets moved in general. TOR, if they were going to move him, waited too long. Most teams have filled their need at most major positions and will be filling out their depth at this point, so for TOR to move him NOW makes them a worse team since replacing him will prove much more difficult at the moment.

He does and he doesn't. Rielly is AWFUL defensively, so in that respect he does not fit Trotz' system, but he does bring some offense which is something the Isles need more of in general. If Trotz can either get him playing more responsibly or pairing so that it mitigates his short-comings then I think it could be a solid fit.

That said? Rielly isn't close to being worth two first rounders. He's a very good #2 dman rental and that isn't worth two firsts.

What are you smoking? TOR takes that and runs.

Guarantee they don't unless they have another deal in place to get someone else. As said, picks don't help them win this year. They're window is closing and time is ticking on Matthews' time in Toronto. Picks of players that won't play in the league for 3-5 years minimum don't help them win.

The value wasn't the part in question (again as mentioned), it's the need that does nothing for Toronto. They'd likely take less to get a better deal to help them win sooner. They'd most likely want one of Beauvillier or Dobson instead of the picks (not saying New York should do that btw), but it fits what helps Toronto win now. They're not looking fo futures. If they were, Rielly would have been dealt already.

They arent leaving value on the table like that. Thats a big overpay.

They're value is in getting pieces to help them win. Picks for an established, top pair, elite puck moving defenceman don't do that. I can almost guarantee you they'd reject and find something else that works for them to add a roster player.
