Garage Sale in the Desert

Team: 2021-22 Arizona Coyotes
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 5, 2021

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
FYI: All these trades happen at the deadline meaning the UFA’s I signed would be at the beginning of the season and then they are traded at the deadline for even more picks. I am open to criticism and I can make corrections if some of the trades are extra lopsided. After these moves Arizona owns 1/4 of round 2 in 2022 and 1/8 of round 1 in 2022. If this doesn’t set them up for the future I don’t know what does.

Trades
1.
ARI
  1. Wagner, Austin
  2. 2022 2nd round pick (LAK)
  3. 2023 3rd round pick (LAK)
Additional Details:
This deal would only happen at the deadline if the Kings were in 3rd place or higher in the Pacific division. Austin Wagner has to come back in the trade for salary reasons.
LAK
  1. Kessel, Phil ($3,400,000 retained)
2.
ARI
  1. Rask, Victor
  2. 2022 1st round pick (MIN)
  3. 2023 3rd round pick (MIN)
Additional Details:
Victor Rask comes back in this deal to make salary work once Kaprizov is signed. This deal happens if Minnesota is in a playoff spot at the deadline and wanting to upgrade on forward. They trade away the 1st round pick with the hopes that it’s a late first depending on how they do playoffs.
3.
ARI
  1. Lucic, Milan
  2. 2022 2nd round pick (FLA)
  3. 2023 3rd round pick (CGY)
  4. 2024 4th round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
Calgary makes this trade at the deadline so that they can add a piece if they are in a playoff spot. The 2nd and 3rd are for Lucic’s contract and the 4th is to acquire Jaskin at the deadline.
4.
ARI
  1. 2022 2nd round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
Rangers make this trade at the deadline if they are in a playoff spot. They take a 3rd line centre in Bozak who would have more points than he normally would after being shoved into Arizona’s top 6. This would raise Bozak’s deadline value and get the Yotes yet another 2nd round pick.
5.
ARI
  1. Engvall, Pierre
Additional Details:
This deal happens to take a younger player with some upside off a team that’s has no cap space and can’t afford to pay the player that they don’t really need. The Leafs don’t have much use for Engvall so they trade home for a mid round draft pick. Engvall will play in Arizona’s middle six.
TOR
  1. 2024 4th round pick (SJS)

I doubt these teams would have interest in these deals, maybe LA might have interest in Kessell but who knows, really don't see Calgary dumping Lucic at this point as they like the element of toughness and physicality he brings, a 2nd for Bozak is optimistic imo.

My reasoning behind it is that if you trade away that contract you could add someone better than Lucic at the deadline but I see what you’re saying.

There isn't a chance in hell we trade a 1st for Schmaltz.

Late, mid, or otherwise.

The only center worth trading for out of Arizona by Wild standards is the guy that just got dealt to Montreal. He at least was a top six option. There's no such option or upside there for us with Schmaltz.

As bad as Rask is, that contract is at least gone after this year. Meanwhile Schmaltz is about $3M overpaid for the next 5 years.

This is a very easy decline from Minnesota.
