I don’t believe either you or me knows the answer to that question.

But all the NHL insiders, and GMMB has pretty much confirmed it. Is he going to miss the whole season and come back for the next one at 37? HIGHLY doubtful. The Habs most likely won't make the playoffs this year either considering how strong the Atlantic and Metropolitan divisions are.

Your belief is that the team would announce to the world what exactly? “Our plan is for Weber to do exactly what Kucherov did last year.” Um, yeah, no.
Weber wants a cup. Price wants a cup. Imo, pretty much everyone involved knows what time it is and will do whatever they need to do. If that includes Weber taking a whole regular season off to properly heal injuries, and that also allows you to add an extra $8mm worth of players?

Btw, Bergevin made clear today that there will not be a new captain here. Possibly cuz the old one isn’t done? That’s my bet anyways. Everyone can believe what they want.

If the Habs make the playoffs and there is any feasible way Weber can get himself healthy enough to play at least 3rd line minutes for at most 28 games, he'll duct tape himself back together if he needs to for one last chance at a cup.
Then he can retire regardless of the results and take all the time he needs to heal.

There's a difference between one last push for a couple months and not being able to play the 80+ games required to continue his career.

I'm not saying it will happen, but it is a very real possibility that Weber returns for the playoffs.
