Leafs 2021-22 Kerfoot Trade

Description
Let me get this out of the way: I am neutral about trading Kerfoot. On one hand it gives us room for someone like Robertson in the starting lineup, cap space, and picks to use for the deadline or draft. On the other hand, we lose a good 2-way forward, someone who can score in the playoffs, and it makes our center depth even thinner. I made the trade based on the Dvorak deal, and I think that their picks will be less valuable than MTL's, so I added a 7th, but I may be completely off on the value (for better or for worse).

1st line: Matthews and Marner to start the year, and Bunting has been rumored to start with them, but this could be Ritchie/Robertson if Bunting doesn't work.

2nd line: Putting Ritchie with Tavares runs the risk of the line being a bit slow, but Nylander is pretty fast and I don't think that it will be an issue.

3rd line: This is the shutdown line. Kampf (sorry for not having the proper accent) is the centre, and Mikheyev and Kase (again, sorry) can play the wing. Both are pretty good defensive forwards, but Mikheyev creates a lot of scoring chances and Kase is has shown that he can score, so this line can also create some offense, especially if Mikheyev can bury more of his chances.

4th line: Spezza is Spezza, but I struggle with putting him as the center. Simmonds will give this some grit, and from what we have seen from Robertson he likes to get his nose dirty too and use his body. I think that this could be a really fun line.

Defense: It will be average. It would be nice to see Rielly back in his 2019 form and Holl play well consistently. I think that this core just has to get us to the deadline where we can improve it if needed.

Goalies: If healthy, 46-36 split in Campbell's favour. It should be very good.

I tried to balance out the powerplays, but we just have to go with whatever works. The PK can hopefully be at least average, and we still have Bunting to work with and Spezza/Matthews to take draws.

Sorry for this essay being too long.

Be honest, what are the chances that Kerfoot gets dealt? I think that Dubas has done too much to keep him, but we'll have too see

Kerfoot > Dvorak

True.... but you have to wonder if getting a 1st isn't possible.

Can't tell me Dvorak is really worth a 1st and 2nd.....

That is the only reason that I made this roster. If the market for players like Dvorak and Kerfoot is that high, why wouldn't you try to cash in? Dubas made sure that we got forward depth this offseason, so Kerfoot is more expendable than he was before.

The market isn't that high. Montreal was just in a bind and had to overpay. This summer, we have seen multiple players, like Reinhart, Buchnevich, McCann moved for less. The Wild have no pressing need to overpay for Kerfoot.

I'd be happy with a 2nd rounder or a physical type 3rd or 4th line RW. If Kase doesn't workout and Simmonds injury history were kind of thin there

Well, if we were to make a trade for Kerfoot, we could offer Greenway. He's exactly like you described and a little better. I'm not sure about the values - Greenway is younger, cheaper and an RFA -but something could be worked out here. Maybe. I just have seen many Wild fans not have any interest in Kerfoot whatsoever.

That's my thinking too. At least think about it. Kicla tire. Just to see how big a fleece job Dvorak was.

Habs fans can call it a win; how Dvorak is the better player right now. That's lipstick on a pig.

I say try different shades of lipstick, whereby Kerfoot is the different shade lol
