I’d say if this were real life San Jose would be fleecing Tampa as Hertl would be a rental and would never happen, but in fantasy it’s a lot less crazy.

In this fantasy, Hertl resigns to a team friendly deal to win a cup, something like 5 years, 7.5 million.

That’d be really interesting. I’d love to have him at that price on the Rangers. Deal would effectively give us a 4-6 year window to compete before our older guys transition out and our young guys completely take over and are in their primes.

I know the buffalo trade doesnt mean much here. Every time is see a buffalo trade that isnt for eichel, its somebody trying to hand us another left d that we cant possibly use, not that i expect anybody that doesnt follow the sabres to know that just because we are the worst team in the league, that are actually all set at left d. I have believed that goalie is the nhl version of running back- you just need an average one, never overpay to get one (at the draft or in contract), spend your assets to get better skaters in front of him. Now im beginning to think this is wrong, maybe left d is the running back position, nobody wants to pay anything for average production out of a left d.
