He's 23 years old, still developing, and has a chance at the NHL level. Give him a year on the fourth line and see if he can still play. He did have 23 points in 2020. Plus, Carpenter is 30 now, we need to develop young guys.

Gaudette is realistically a 4th line player until further notice and despite Kurashev having the two way tools to be valuable on the 4th line, he's even more valuable on the 3rd line or even potentially up on the second line with Kubalik and Toews.

Nylander is a wild card and not 4th line material as he plays little to no defense despite often being deployed there in 2020. He's going to be fighting for that 3rd line spot with Kurashev and Hagel. Khaira is really no more then a 13th man up front IMO, Guadette may be a better fit at the 4C.
