Kane is staying. SJ would never ever retain 3.5mil for 4 years. The org won't pay to trade Kane at all.

I think this would be a steal for the sharks even with the retention. If I was GM I’d taken this and run.

I know I think it is good for both sides
We get point production and more toughness
You get 1st and problem in the locker room removed

The best deal is Kane and the team work it out. Mario's statements on Evander we're pretty telling that not everyone (if anyone) had a problem with Kane. This is not a good move for SJ at all if they intend to compete for the playoffs. Caps easily win this deal it is basically a fleecing.

I would doubt the guys would just roast him in interviews, he’s still on the team. Of course everyone working it out and keeping our highest goal scorer would be the best case scenario. The issue is, the team really isn’t a contender and that’s been proven over the last two years. Getting rid of a player who is no doubt a problem and getting a first round pick from a declining team, to me, seems to be a great deal.

Most people who follow the NHL don’t think the sharks are contenders, neither do I, and this would be a great way for them to get rid of a problem player and pick up draft capital for the “retool” or whatever DW wants to call it. I’m not sure the caps want to do it though

I know that they aren’t contenders. Are you referring to when I said first. I meant a first round pick but forgot to put “a”. Sorry for the confusion. The whole point of this was to add great depth and add toughness to fill the loss of chara and Dillion . Kane is like Wilson because he has great offense of ability and can do the dirty too.

Never said "contenders" but playoff hockey is a possibility. retools dont go on for years. We cant rebuild due to 4 contracts that are basically unmoveable. So why not keep our star players to give us some hope and to enjoy watching hockey. Our prospects need to develop and keeping a guy like Kane in the lineup allows that. This has nothing to do with being a contender on paper, we had that for YEARS and never won. This is about keeping veterans in the lineup, keep the team competitive and not rushing Eklund, Bordeleau, Gushchin, Coe, Wiesblatt Robins etc.
