Description
Man, this team gets absolutely NO credit out there. Everyone has them in 20th or worse in the league. I don't get it. This team is absolutely nasty on paper. They just need to stay healthy, which has proven to be a big task over the last couple of years. The young 'n old line leads the way, with the return of Segs Benn Radulove right after them. That's as strong of a 1-2 punch in the league. I easily see this roster being top 4 in the Central, again, pending team health.

Absolutely love the Suter signing, and he should slot in nicely for Oleksiak's role. The biggest question mark is in net, but with Bishop's continued health problems, I guess it can't be helped. The strong D-core should make up for it. I put Otter in the lineup, but I assume he will play majority of the year in the minors for continued development. Unless it really goes to hell in net, he can easily be called up as needed. I don't necessarily agree with the Holbty signing, but, well... he's here. And honestly with all the injuries, it doesn't really hurt to have that insurance. If Dobby gets injured, who else comes up to help Otter? They need to compete now and can't afford not having the help. Again, with all the injuries this team has had, I don't really blame them too much

I do not think that this is a "mediocre" team but it's not a great team either.

IMHO, the problems with that lineup are the following:

- That 4th line is awful
- 4 players of the Top 6 are aged north of 30 and are way pass their prime production years. Logic dictates a decrease in production
- For the offense to thrive, you will need a lot of production from JR (second year), Hintz (I am very confident) and Gurianov (you will not get it if you slot him with Faksa)
- This line up needs another point producer in order to have 3 lines capable of producing sme goals. Kessel someone?
- Defense is fine
- Goaltending is somewhat puzzling like you mentioned
- Bowness is still the coach

The only place Faksa should see ice time is on the 4th line between Glendening and Comeau. Putting him anywhere near the top-8 forwards is going to absolutely torpedo any kind of offensive value those guys bring to the table. That being said, Bowness will stick him between a couple of those guys & then question why that line isn't producing any offense. Same song, different year.

Agree. I would have love for Nill to give a PTO to a guy like Ho Sang. This guy has tons of talent and he would slot nicely on the Top 9. That is, if he sort out his problems. I would be more confident with a Top 9 like this one with Faksa on the 4th line.

JR-Hintz-Pavelski
Kiviranta/Ho Sang-Seguin-Gurianov
Kiviranta/Ho Sang-Benn-Radulov
LG-Faksa-Comeau/Raffl/Kero/ etc. and under an average of 12 minutes a game

Robo - Hintz - Pavelski
Gurianov - Seguin - Radulove
Kiviranta - Benn - Raffl/Comeau
Glendening - Faska - Comeau/Raffl

Would that be better? I'm not sure there is really anyone else that can come up from the AHL for the 3C. I was going on that awesome past experience, and hoping they can re-ignite as not the main line anymore. I also think Kiviranta being on the 3rd line with Faska and Gurianov could have better offense than when Comeau was on the 3rd line most of last year

But yeah, I am fairly surprised Bowness made it through the offseason. I will assume he's on a very short leash

I do not know if that's better. But I think it shows that there is a piece missing on the Top 9. As far as I am concern, we only have one player that is entering his prime years in force with Hintz. Gurianov and Kiviranta are still a question mark in my mind, and JR is still pretty young. It's a pretty wild bet to think that our players north of 30 will increase or equal their production. Do not forget that two of them are coming back from major injuries.

Yeah agree 100%. A Glendening-Faksa-Comeau line could be very good if sheltered, Glendening is a clear upgrade over Cogs.

I’d go:
JRob-Hintz-Pavs
Kiviranta-Segs-Rads
Gurianov-Benn-Ho-Sang
LG-Faksa-Comeau

Play that 4th line under 10 minutes.

At this point our best bet is to hope that one of our young guns proves himself in camp. Someone like Damiani.

Dubas is a smart GM. He has both Ho Sang and Gusev on PTO with the Leafs. Granted that the Leafs have yet to performed in the PO but it's better to bet on players like these two with PTO than with players like Stefan Noesen, Scottie Upshall and R.J. Umberger

Agree, but watch Bowness sloting him with any duo of those players: Comeau/Kero/LG/Raffl/Faksa. After that, they will sent him down and tell us he needs to work big minutes in the AHL.

This was the case with JR last year before the injuries. They were playing him with boat anchors and JR was struggling. He blossomed when they "HAD" to play him on the Top 6. It was by "accident" that we had this wonderful year from JR, not by design.

They played Dowling over JRob multiple times in the past couple of years. If it wasn’t for luck we’d probably be on par with the Sabres as jokes of the league.

While I'm certainly no fan of Bowness, Nill really couldn't fire him. He was the coach when Dallas made it to the finals a year ago (though I contend they made in IN SPITE of him, not because of him), and last season was absolutely brutal with injuries & the condensed schedule. While I think his system is atrocious for today's NHL, due to last year's circumstances Nill really couldn't fire the man. In terms of the lineup, in a perfect scenario, I run out these forward lines:

Robertson-Hintz-Pavelski
Gurianov-Seguin-Radulov
Kiviranta-Benn-Dellandrea/Damiani
Comeau-Faksa-Glendening
Raffl

Dellandrea had a bit of an up & down showing in Traverse City, but still has a chance to impress enough to make the roster out of camp. Damiani has absolutely skyrocketed up the Stars depth chart over the last year & he had a very nice Traverse City Tournament while playing almost exclusively on the wing (he's a primary Center). If either of those guys can make the roster, they are an instant upgrade over Raffl on the 3rd Line. This gives Dallas a true top-6, a 3rd line that can play well in all ends of the ice, and a 4th line specifically for defensive situations.

You forgot Seguin! I guess he is centering your 2nd line. 😀
