The ducks have a super bright future ahead of them full of great prospects and might be competing sooner than people think.
Explaining the trades:
Rakell and lidholm trades are both very similar they get traded at the tdl before their respective contract runs up. Contending teams will overpay picks for them to get really solid top 6 and top 4 guys.Anaheim picks up picks so that they lose them for nothing in free agency.
Gibson is due to leave anaheim and the pens seem like the clear front runners to get him.
Demsmith has super underrated numbers over the past 3 years and is a great mentor and tandem to a young dostal. You get a first and a second in a stacked draft even tho the first and second will be late they still can get you a B+ and a B- prospect.Poulin still has potential to be a 20 goal guy in his prime.
Explaining the free-agent signings
Desmith:Short term deal for a great tandem goalie
Severson:Ducks overpay a tad for a top 4 guy to fill in their Rd hole with manson leaving in free agency. Severson fills in as a solid top 4 guy as their younger prospects develop.
I can see the ducks getting to a few conference finals over the next few years but it's hard to see them hoisting a cup

While I would really like to see Gibson in a PIT uni, it would have to be Jarry going the other way. This is beneficial for both teams, PIT on cap and ANA for tradable assets.

Pens likely say no for the simple fact Hextall is not moving 1sts or 2nds anymore, we have no idea how good Poulin will be in two years and it's likely the Pens are closer to a rebuild at that point.

Yeah honestly that might work but anaheim might want demsith again rather than jarry as desmith is cheaper and would be a better compliment to dostals future.

It's at the deadline and it seems as he's going to leave regardless in free agency. Hall only got a 2nd and bjork who is worth less than a second

I don't see why the pens wouldn't just load up for a another run over the next 2 years. You don't get another sindey crosby/connor mcdavid that often even tho hes 33 crosby still has it left in him. Poulin doesn't add up whatsoever with the pens future he's not developed enough now to make a big impact in the lineup and he is gonna be in his prime when the pens are rebuilding.

For one, this is in two years from now. If Poulin shows to be a good forward then the Pens are likely not going to part with cheap good players. Regardless if they rebuilding or not it wouldn't make sense for a player like Gibson at that point.

As far as the draft picks go it's a moot point. This is the decision of ownership.

The trade would happen in the 2022 offseason to be clear but that's on me I should have said that in the post.As for poulin no one really knows how he is gonna perform at this point in the pens system as he has not played a single game yet.Gibson would be a massive help for the pens solidifying their net for the next few years. As the trade happens I wouldn't expect poulin to plat much after this year so It would be a small risk by Pittsburgh basically letting go of a prospect with top 6 ceiling for a all-star caliber goalie.

In a bubble, sure the Pens could use Gibson, but you've picked a time that's so far out and soooo many things can happen by then.

Will Poulin emerge as a true top six?
Will Gibson get better with age? worse with age?
Will the Pens be looking to rebuild?
Will the Pens have secured a different option in goal by then?
Will Hextall eventually bend on 1st and 2nds being off limits?

I get looking ahead to the 22/23 season, but this is just too far out with too many variables.
