No it is trading for his rights. Maybe don't rate a team if you don't understand simple concepts.

If Tampa need cap that bad they could buy out Callahan but considering there's the Expansion Draft and they could leave either Coburn, Garrison or even Stralman unprotected and make a deal with Vegas that would cost them less than losing Drouin. So I doubt they have any interest in moving him at all.

Also Schenn's contract means they basically have to lose a really good player to gain a a small hypothetical amount of cap.

You guys do understand that Schenn is good right? They also get Hagg (likely a career 2nd pairing D man who is NHL ready) and Weal who has shown that he belongs in a top 9 role in the NHL.

I like it. I think one pick to get rid of Read is enough. You forget Lindblom or you think he starts in AHL?

Yes I think a year in the AHL for him. Hextall is very hesitant to bring young kids in immediately.

Sure, Schenn is good but lets not kid ourselves, Droiun is going to have the better career. Hagg will only be a 2nd pair on a bad, bad team. He's gonna be a 5th defensemen at best most likely. Weal has played 21 NHL games and has 1 point, as much as he's been good of late he certainly hasn't proved "he belongs in a top 9 role". And he's a UFA.

Dangles,

Most people around the league don't understand/like a lot of the Flyers players. The system we run really limits certain people to playing specific roles (i.e. Raffl/Schenn). Therefore, most of the league severely undervalues them so you can't get mad when people don't realize that. However, I do agree that if I'm Tampa I'd move most of the roster before I'd lose Drouin. However, to the comment that Drouin will have a better career I'd slow my role on that one for now. Drouin's career path is actually heading directly at what Schenn's is - a 20-25 goal scorer and 50 points. They are probably a wash, but I know the Flyers would probably be more interested in Drouin since he is younger and we probably aren't going to ready to compete until Schenn is due for another raise - which is going to be hard to pay ...

Weal may only have 1 point in X amount of games but he has been on the 4th line for all of those games but the last 2! When playing with G and Simmonds, that line had created more chances in the last 2 games than G's line had since the all star break. As for Weal as a UFA, you can see that I extended him can't you? As for Hagg, nobody truly knows but to claim he would only be a 4th d man on a really bad team is absurd. And like Nate said, Drouin is currently on pace for Schenn's career so far. so TB actually makes out pretty well in this deal if you ask me.

I know my hockey but thanks for the condescending lesson about how not to let my judgements be clouded by who I do and don't like. Schenn is probably only behind Simmonds, Provorov, Ghost and Konecny in terms of trade value and probably the most expendable of that lot. However, Drouin is matching Schenns point totals 4 years younger and in considerably less NHL games than Schenn managed to hit those highs. Saying it's absurd to rate as I Hagg do but your second pair rating is acceptable is hypocritical. I'm fairly well versed on the guy, he has 41 points in 193 AHL games and trust what the scout and coach reports say. He is not projected to be a top 4 defensmen. Flyers fans also have a knack of over projecting the value of their prospects. As for Weal, like I said I'm impressed by this stint in the NHL but 7 games on our top line doesn't make him a clear top 9 player.

This is how I see the trade...

Drouin slightly > Schenn so add Weal to even it out. Hagg has more trade value than Coburn and clears cap space.

Does that clear things up for you?

Not really but thanks for trying. Adding extra players until there's enough 'value' to equal out is how NHL 17 and its cohorts work. Why do Tampa have interest in Weal? I see the cap saving with Coburn (though this trade basically saves them under $2m) but they could just waive him and either lose him for nothing or buy him out for a bigger saving and they get to keep Drouin. Or they could trade him elsewhere with retained salary and not have to give up Drouin to do it. Why do we want another bottom pair defensmen clogging the system up for prospects again and taking up much more cap?

I'm not sure how that rebukes any of my points or answers any of my questions. But I guess implying I'm too stupid to understand is enough justification. All a bit ad hominem though.
