You are not getting Skinner for that. Pretty sure Carolina is not interested in moving him. If anything they would want to move Staal. Great player but Staal is starting to get older than what the core of the team is. Move him and continue to stockpile talent. I guess using the Jackets model rebuild.

I think the Skinner trade is reeeeally close. Might need to add just a touch more somewhere.

What does Carolina do with the other 2 goalies they have?

If we're talking straight up value wise? Yeah I guess maybe it works. In terms of plausibility? I don't think so. If you going to make a trade like this, at least have the coeurtesy of taking one of their goalies of their hands. Otherwise I just can't see it happening.

Regarding the AGM itself, Dekeyser is a decent player, maybe not 5M decent but still good. Teams would be lining up to trade for him. the caveat being some salary would need to go back to you for it to work.

I agree that you might have to retain salary to move him, but he's a bottom pair defender on any other team in the NHL, he has size and doesn't use it. Not a great shot, not physical and terrible positioning. He should've gotten a Smith contract.

Three things to note here: 1. I would be leaving Justin Abdelkader or Darren Helm unprotected before Danny DeKeyser; 2. Detroit is overpaying for Michael Del Zotto at $4-million per year for a player that has been a healthy scratch for parts of the last two seasons...he more than likely gets a one-year "show me" contract like Thomas Vanek did; 3. I think all of you are over-evaluating Jeff Skinner at the NHL level...he's eclipsed the 50-point mark just twice in the last five years (likely does it his year) and that deal needs to have Eddie Lack or Cam Ward coming back rather than Lee Stempniak.

I really think your just summing up his ability because of the bad season. I mean with your logic, Mackinnon is really not living up to his contract........Good players on bad teams suffer the same fate as the rest of the team. Like I said, is he worth 5M? Nope. Never should of got that contract but is he a bottom pairing dman? Not even close. Take a bottom pairing dman and put him against the other teams best players night in and night out on a crappy team and see how well they do. Dekeyser is being over used for his abilities and that isn't his fault. He's doing the best with what he's got and since Lidstrom retired, that isn't much. (And the glory days of Kronwall)
