The Holtby trade is interesting. The fit isn't right since Edmonton already has Talbot locked up long term, but I'll just talk about value. Puljujarvi is going to be a top line winger in the NHL in a few years. Is him, a first, and two seconds worth the best goalie in the world? And how do we know that part of why Holtby is thriving is because he has an excellent defensive team in front of him? How different would it be if he was on a team that doesn't have as strong a defensive structure? I don't think it would be too different, but it's still something that has to be taken into account.
The Ovechkin trade is awful for the Leafs. These second round picks don't really do too much for the Caps, so it's basically Ovechkin for Marner + a little extra. Marner is already a stud right now, and is only going to grow into probably a 90 point player. Given that the Leafs could have potentially 7 or 8 years of monster production for a few years of monster goal scoring (given that the Leafs handle Ovechkin right), it's a horrible trade for them.
A couple of side notes - Caps can't trade a first in 2017 since it was already moved in the Shattenkirk trade. Also Samsonov won't be coming over from the KHL next year, and he certainly isn't ready for the starting job, nor is Vanecek.
