Best Team Under the Actual Cap

Description
It's easy if you're going to spend $150 million or $200 million, but what if you actually had to stay under the cap?

Guys who deserve consideration:

Huberdeau (probably should have him instead of Guentzel)
Kubalik
Mangiapane
Theodore
Toews the Younger
plus all the expensive defensemen I left off due to cap hit

Who do you think I left out -- but you have to tell me who he'd replace.

I left the number one player in the world off simply because he's so damn expensive. But my next effort is going to start with him and Leon, plus John Gibson and Jack Eichel just to annoy my two frequent antagonists, CD282 and Shibbal18.

Using fewer ELCs would put me over the cap. I'm within $1 million now (I have 24 players instead of 23).

I skipped Petersen because he has the big raise coming next season. I should have put Lankinen in the "Deserves Consideration" category, along with Jack Campbell.

I would likely do the slight downgrade of Drai for point/Barkov and then ditch the 24th player. That should give you 3-4 mil.

I'd likely upgrade Miller to Ekholm.

Would also look closely at couts

Would swap out guentzel for Marchand.

Honestly I'd consider swapping Crosby for the other of Barkov/point. 2-3 years ago not a chance but they're catching up. That likely allows you to upgrade Yamamoto to Huberdeau

I purposely left Barkov and Verhaeghe off because they're getting the big raises next year and I'd be way over the cap. (I also left off anyone with an expiring contract.) But they could easily be on this team on merit.

Yeah I figured I'd go atypical and put a goalie on the bench. That way I'd be more confident taking a bit of a gamble on both knight and Oettinger being unproven but saving cap.

Mayfield is a decent player but has probably a top 15 contract so that's got a fair bit of value
