Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
1) Washington needs to dump salary especially if they want to resign Shattenkirk. Bowey should be NHL ready next season so they can afford to lose the mid aged Niskanen to dump Orpik and the expensive 4th liner in Wilson. Rychel gives them a cheaper option in their bottom 6 and Gardiner gives them a very good puck mover to solidify the defence if/when Alzner leaves.

2) Minnesota needs to free themselves of a defenceman or risk losing one for nothing. JVR gives them a good and, in this case, relatively cheap scoring option and Dermott gives them some prospect depth on defence.

3) Bozak would be the 4th line center if Nylander moves to the middle so move him to a team that could use him for a and take on a cap dump to get a mid round pick.

4) Leipsic gives Vegas speed and youth, 2 things that are going to be hard to come by in the expansion draft.

5) grab a couple picks instead of placing them on waivers. Arizona could use some leadership and scoring.

Fehr was on waivers at least twice this seasons, so not sure Arizona would bite giving up a pick, admitting the pick ain't much. II'd rather have one year of Bozak then two years of Hagelin. Like the acquisition of Brodin, but JVR may not be a piece they need especially for upcoming cap reasons, maybe another prospect. Agree with you that Dermot might be the guy to go unfortunately.
Not sure if Washington likes giving up so much for really just Gardiner, but like your thought in using the Leafs cap space to improve.

Seeming as though Brown and Hyman are 24/25 and are rookies, they would probably want a 2-3 year bridge contract then maybe cash in for a big contract after that for like 4 years. Or if they value years more then they go with long-term for like 3-3.5 mill.

EDIT: Brown is 23. Hyman is 24 turning 25 in June. So maybe this bridge for Hyman and long-term for Brown.

Ya I retained some money to try to alleviate some of the cap issue but your probably right plus I just looked at their expansion issue and JVR doesn't help that either so the Leafs would have to add more and take back at least one player in return so it probably doesn't work. And I thought about adding more to the Washington trade but couldn't decide what to give up and plus don't sleep on Rychel I think he's going to be a good pro as a 3rd line guy that could play up in the lineup once and a while. Watched a couple Marlies games and they use him like the Leafs use JVR so it could be interesting.

Maybe though I don't think it matters either way. Brown maxes out as a 2nd line grinder but probably a 3rd liner and Hyman should be on the 4th line, and will probably max out as a 3rd liner and unless you want to look like Detroit or the Islanders than 3rd liners don't make 3M+.

The signings of Brown and Hyman. I agree If you really think they are long term NHLers, I like the idea of the six year contract, though maybe about 2,6m might be the target. Mr Cap suggested a bridge, which might be a good idea also, but due his age, Hyman is going to be a UFA in two years, so if you bridge him he could be gone after two years. More likely is bridge for Brown....though if you like him you sign him long term like other guys coming off their ELCs.

Yeah that's true. Hyman is a really good bottom 6 forward. I think Brown is a skilled player that plays a lot better with other skilled players (i.e he can keep up). So maybe Brown with 3+ and Hyman at 1.5-2?

Ya maybe though I'm with Palhal, I wouldn't really go over 2.6ish I love both players but with Matthews, Nylander, Marner, and hopefully Kapanen needing big raises in the next couple years and theyears still need to add a top defenseman somehow.

And I don't like bridge deals unless you don't think the player is going to work out (ie Kadri) they have proven that they cost teams more money in the end and that means they can't bring in better players around them so sign them long term or find someone else to fill that role. The easiest role to fill in the league is that of a 3rd liner so don't pay more than you have to.

I think its the other way around... Hyman is older and has less room to improve. sign him for 2-2.5 for 4-5 years. You want to bridge Brown to see his true potential. Top 6 scoring winger? or bottom 6 grinder? I'd go 1 year at 2-2.5, Then hopefully 6 year around 3-4 (really depends how he does next year)

As for the trades... take out Wilson and/or the 3rd. Niskanen is a HUGE acquisition.
Don't do the Bozak trade. We don't need more wingers. Centre depth is very important. Especially if Nylander needs another year on the wing.
And it may just be me, but I really like Leivo and think he should stay.

Overall good post though, reasonable values
