Looks like a CAP dump with no upside for Buffalo

It's a low-key proposal for sure. I just thought it might be kind of interesting if Ryan Johansen got a change of scenery, and I felt maybe those three Buffalo players aren't necessarily in the organization's long-term plans, so they might shake some things up at the trade deadline

I think Nashville would be willing to trade Johansen for Eakin straight up just for the cap relief and then they don’t have to part with players with a bit of upside like Bjork or Butcher for two AHLers

I don't think Bjork or Butcher have all that much upside to begin with, I think both players are pretty much what they are at this point. Two bottom of the lineup players that can provide a little bit of secondary scoring

I don’t disagree with what they are now, and maybe Butcher is what he is, but Bjork hasn’t been in the league long and still could improve. Even if he doesn’t though, they carry far more value than the two pieces coming the other way.

But either way it’s a terrible trade for Buffalo, this is what I’d consider deweaponizing your cap space

Buffalo would need a lot more too take that cap hit, especially since they will be taking on some bad contacts to make a Eichel trade work

We don't know necessarily that Buffalo will be taking on bad contracts in return for unloading Eichel

Do to the salary cap most teams will be trying to move money. So odds are those will be less favorable contracts due to the Sabres wanting picks and prospects as the center piece for the trade.

Good chance a return package has an outline like that, but I'd still say it is just theoretical at this point

You need to add a couple of 1sts to this trade. Salary cap space is gold. Johansen really has no value. The Sabres are high on Bjork

If that is the case, maybe I ought to have added one 1st rounder on Nashville's end, but certainly not two firsts
