After the first chunk of the season here is the plan

Created by: HockeyGM93
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 3, 2021
Published: Nov. 3, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Kase needs some offensive help. He hounds down pucks but then the play dies. If needed the can re-assemble the 47-64-25 line for shut down.

Not sure where 65 fits in... maybe finally move him? What is his worth? a 4th?

Malgin and Anderson really have no value. Anderson, while still young couldn;t stick with NJ and has been back in AHL for 2 seasons with no real progression. So really that narrows it down to the 1st and 4th (two drafts away) for Rakell which MIGHT be close, but I think with the retention you're looking at adding a 3rd or taking out the scrubs and adding a prospect (Abramov?).

Holl and Ritchie are two players, but not sure BUF would want them, BUF has alot of bodies, but might be looking for more top 4 dmen or top 6 forwards and Holl and Ritchie arent that in BUF. We've seen the market for RD dmen go up and I think Miller probably gets a 2nd at the deadline, maybe more with retention.

Overall, nice adds for TOR. Just pretty sure the meek or ill-fitting offers will not get accepted.

100% agree. With Buffalo I am just thinking they'll need bodies because they'll be sellers at deadline (No way they keep up their play..?). For Ducks, the 4th could be a 3rd or like you said an Abramov / Steeves type upgrade.

I agree with @Hammerwise and @HockeyGM93 -- it will take more than a first and a future fourth plus two AHLers to get Rakell with 50% retention. Probably a real prospect with an actual chance of sticking in the NHL.

Like I said those two players would be nice UFA additions, not sure its really enough or what they need.

IMO, in relation to the roles they play, the Leafs have about 7 good players, about 3-4 average players, and then about 10 guys who are 4th liners. And the Leaf coach plays them that way as the 7-8 good players get 20+ minutes a night, and the rest all get less than 14 minutes a night. And they are paid similarly, there is no team in the league that I can think of that has such a pay and icetime disparity. (For example between 1.645mil and 5mil theres just 3 guys: Kerfoot/Ritchie/Mrazek, compare that to philly who have 7)

To me theres just too huge a talent gap, and adding some quality depth and not over relying on guys like Simmonds and Kase's health, Spezza's fountain of youth, Engvall/Mikheyev who cant produce, Bunting to not be a 26 yr AHLer, and Ritchie to produce at a 3rd line level.

Its the top heavy salaries and the cap, I know, Its also a major weakness that isn;t going away next year
